Man, that guy is just really not attractive as a prospect. I could see him going someplace like Milwaukee or Minnesota (haha).
It's funny because I thought that Love for Mayo trade was pretty bad for Minny at the time, but it's certainly looking like McHale got the best of Chris Wallace on that one (haha).
hes exactly what we need off the bench... a pg who can score. johnson dribbles in circles... makes a bad pass... turover or violation. i think we need a pg more then anything
I am not so sure this is about the talent. Memphis has had a problem with not enough shots to go around for all the players, and I am pretty sure this has more to do with the lack of shots for his position as opposed to Xavier Henry actually beating him out. My guess is this is a problem between Mayo and Hollins, and has little to do with the talent he carries. But that being said, in the rebuild now or later thread, I mentioned looking for talented players who are not fitting in their current teams. I mentioned Terrence Williams in that thread. OJ Mayo would fit that bill as well. Everybody knows OJ Mayo can ball. Terrence Wiliams can too. Maybe they just dont' fit in there, like many of our players here, don't fit in here.
No not really, but it wouldn't hurt. The team's problems won't be solved until we get some bigs to provide screens, spacing, and rebounding. Blazers physicality = zilch.
Oh definitely. Have you noticed how they don't have anybody to set screen, be a post presence, and rebound? Everybody on the bench unit needs assistance to get scores by having bigs break them free. Rudy plays off of screens and pick and roll exclusively. Armon Johnson just pounds the rock until the shot clock runs out because nobody can set a screen for him. The spacing is all fucked up because everyboy on the team plays 15 feet and out. How many times were there passes into Lamarcus (If you can call them "into" when he is 15 feet from the hoop) and when he gets the ball there are 2 Blazers and 3 defenders around him because the spacing is bad? That pass needs to be 10 feet or less from the hoop, and then the spacing between him and the perimeter players opens up lanes.
I feel exactly the same way. Mayo wouldn't hurt, but I'm not sure he does anything to improve this team's prospects in the short or long term unless or until the front-court gets dramatically better (tougher).
The team wasn't the same 2 years ago as it was now. Each of those years we had guys to fill the roles that we need bigs to do in order to still win. Frye left we replaced him with Howard. Howard left we replaced him with nobody. Now Dante is playing his ass off to try and play that role on the team, but he is just too small. He gets hammered physically, overwhelmed by size, and can't just pull it off. Nothing against Dante, but he is overmatched at that position.
Mayo's a volume shooter who doesn't have a position and doesn't play a lick of defense. Basically a glorified Von Wafer. I'll pass.
If anything we should be looking to acquire Jeff Teague. A young PG with serious upside that we could probably get on the cheap. He could be like an Eric Maynor type pickup.
