Like I said, the only one with guaranteed long term problems is Roy. If Oden can play as a good center, changes everything. still haven't written him off.

overhaul won't work, it'll take just as long to blow up the roster than to just let current big contracts expire anyway. We can tweak the roster, complete blowups rarely work.

I don't think that the pieces he has are particularly appealing, though.

Joel? Camby? Miller? Batum? Allen's millions?

Each have risks in terms of taking a step back in the short run or taking on long-term burdens.

I'm not saying he has NO options, but... they're less appealing than I would have guessed they'd be this time last year.

The best we can do is trade a combo of Pryzbilla's contract and Batum to upgrade the 3 position. That's not really a "defining hour" moment.

In all seriousness, just what the fuck is it going to take? Getting hit by a semi-truck and being put in traction for six months? A MRSA infection and subsequent foot amputation? Ballooning up to 600 pounds?

Yes. I've waited like 3 years (or 4), I can wait another 2. Not like there's much the Blazers can do with gutting this roster anyway.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I'd say an injury that is expected to change his ability or end his career. So far, none of the injuries or procedures are expected to do either.

I still haven't given up on Oden, though I'm no longer of the belief that the Blazers should build with him in mind.

By the way, that girl you were dating 5 years ago that said she just needed to step out for a breath of fresh air and never came back ... there's still hope.

While I completely understand the frustration factor, given that Greg came back completely from his prior microfracture surgery and that we haven't heard that this one was any more severe than the prior one, what exactly is it that makes you think he won't be able to come back after a year (or perhaps two years if there's a lockout) of recovery?

C'mon. It is so much better to be able to see the future and know that he is worthless moving forward.

Maybe Cho should be like KP and fire the coach and then coach the team himself for the rest of the season.

Or maybe he should fire the coach and then hire KP as the coach for the rest of the season :)

Shawn Kemp part II. 10 years from now, some people will still be waiting for that comeback.

Fans get that luxury. Teams don't.

Nobody could figure out what happened to that guy... he ballooned during the lockout and never got back in shape.

One definition of insanity is repeating the same action over and over - and expecting a different result. Seriously, why would you expect anything to change in 2011, or 2012, or whenever? After 4 seasons, you still don't believe the data?

Not data like this. Not much at all. The injuries are not closely correlated to one another as far as I (or any medical authority I've ever seen quoted) can tell.

If I roll a five or six on a standard six-sided die nine times out of ten I'm not going to bet against it being less than five on the next roll.

In any event, it's not binary. Oden is not either all the way back or broken altogether. There is a massive spectrum that he could fall in, and given how high his upside was pre-injuries and how young he is, I think that there is still a very good chance that he's at least a starting-level NBA center.
