If you get a car, I suggest going to the North Shore instead or hit up both. North Shore is great for buying fruits on the side of the road, banzai pipeline, and other cool vibe shit out that way. shrimp trucks!
If you like Beer, Its a chain but you've probably haven't been..the Yardhouse has like 80 beers on tap. its a chill bar, hard to get a seat but not hard to strike up random conversations. their burgers are quite awesome.
Food in Waikiki generally blows. Nightlife is a bit ghetto too. Lots of army people and the locals are kind of territorial. Bars on Kuhio are kind of gangster-riffic. I like Puka Dog, which are interesting hot dogs. They impale the buns and squirt mango mayonaise. Teddy's Better Burgers (fast food chain near the zoo). Eggs n' Things (good pancakes, portugese sausage omelettes). There's a good british pub there, its right by the Hyatt..its underground. Lulu's and Tiki's aren't too ghetto...closer to the zoo again.
The Honolulu City Council is considering a bill that would impose up to a $500 fine and/or up to six months in jail for public transit passengers convicted of being too smelly. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32649198/ns/us_news-weird_news/ Honolulu police arrest about 500 hookers a year. But it’s estimated that for every one hooker on the street, there are 10 more either working out of “massage” parlors or “escort” services or freelancing on the Internet. And they aren’t shy. HBO did a documentary special called Downtown Girls: The Hookers of Honolulu which featured four of downtown’s busiest transvestite hookers: Barbie-Q, Juici, Saellah V. and Delicious. http://www.honolulumagazine.com/cor...February-2010/Astounding-Honolulu/&mode=print
I've been there once. Its a dressy club in the Ala Moana mall. Didn't stay long to be honest, maybe 10-15 minutes..had a drink, got bored and left. Probably not a bad place to check out if you want to get dressed up....but its a bit uppity of a club...meaning girls are dressed up, etc. Its not too bad...dunno, just seemed out of place for hawaii. There's another bar on the top floor of the mall called Mai Tai's....its not bad during the day, chill, game on TV, nice drinks...prob happy hour its pretty good too...lots of drunk slutty chicks...however if you go too late on friday and saturday night it gets kind of "local"/ghetto though. http://www.yelp.com/biz/mai-tai-bar-honolulu http://www.yelp.com/biz/pearl-ultra-lounge-honolulu
You're scaring me . .. we both do the main island the same way. I have island snow clothes in my closet (first just went there for the shaved ice) and day trip to the North Shore at least once each trip buying fruit, hitting the up the beaches (waimea bay and sunset being my favorite) and always hit up the shrimp trucks (garlic shrimp). Spend most of my time at Kailua or Lanaki beach. Only difference is I avoid waikiki.
Yeah. Its pretty chill. Last time there I hit the winward side of the island. There's some kind of sand bar where people drink up on holidays with boats I guess..one of my friends was telling me about it last time I was there. Most of the time I do stay in Waikiki....I did Turtle Bay once..that was really awesome. They have a good public beach there too.....
