WTF? I suggest you read Hubie Brown's book, "How to Win With Less Talent". Dude was a master at transition offense and getting easy buckets.
The guy was saying exactly what we needed to do: -Push the ball off rebounds and steals. -ROLL TO THE HOOP ON PICK AND ROLLS -Feed LA -Get out of the zone The guy just understands bball, and if he's still interested in an opportunity, he needs to be first on our list as Nate's replacement. He openly roots for teams when he's announcing the game, and he was rooting for POR tonight, and he provided tremendous insight into what we needed to do to get back in the game, and as soon as we started doing it, we came back.
Hubie believes in walking before you run. Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals. When he coached the Grizz, they took a long time before they did anything uptempo.
He's 77 and looks like a skeleton. Don't know if he wants the grind of being an NBA coach at this point in his life, I know I probably wouldn't.
Westhead teams averaged 120ppg and wasted no shot clock. Constantly run and gun. He's saying that Hubie Brown's offense would make McMillan look like Westhead. I don't know where to start with how wrong that statement is. Hubie Brown was a genius at transition offense under the right circumstances.
Absolute BS. Hubie is a master at playing a style that fits his personnel. Again, I suggest you read his book. I read it about 3 years ago, great read.
Ya, hearing his insight into what Portland needs to do to become successful was enough for me to come to the conclusion that he'd be a great coach for us. But his age is a pretty significant deterrent. My idea is that he simply needs to instill a philosophy and culture among the team, and hire a couple good assistant coaches who can carry out his orders and coach when Hubie is too tired to scream.
We'd should be much more advantageous when it comes to transition ball. Roy is the only player that thrives in half court ball. Andre was awesome in Philly when they got out and ran. Batum is great in the open court. Wes Matthews thrives when slashing. Camby is a great shot blocker, a great trait to start a fastbreak. Aldridge obviously thrives in the opencourt as well, the guy is great at running the court for his size. I'm not saying we have to be a New York, Phoenix or Golden State. But, there is a happy medium and being last in fastbreak buckets every year with our players is pathetic.
