I'm viewing Atlanta as a top 4 team now, definitely. Patriots, Falcons, Ravens, Steelers. No particular order.
Vick is 7-2 when he plays most of the game. Philly is pretty much as good as any other NFC team. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teameff
Now you know why I want the NBA to go more towards an NFL system as to how they run the teams as opposed to how baseball does it. Every year in football teams turn it around and are competitive, Atlanta is a prime example of that Teams can quickly retool and get back into competitive mode because they have the freedom to do so. What was a bad team can turn it around in a few years because they have the ability to cut players as they please and pick up free agents. Meanwhile basketball is still thinking of revenew sharing, in which it actually pays to have a bad team. As long as that system is in place, some teams will never be competitive.
The NFL is one of the sports where the best team wins the fewest times though, that's just the nature of it. There's a lot of variability when you have such a large roster.
Here's a good article on that: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/blog/?p=58 Best team wins superbowl 27% of the time. In baseball it is 29% as well. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/blog/?p=56
your/ their definition of "best team" is stupid. The best team is the team that wins the championship. 07 Giants > 07 Patriots
As much as you don't want to admit it, there's always a large amount of probability involved in football. A one game sample size means, erratic results.
Funny how a lot of people are sleeping on the Saints. That team has got healthy again and are winning under the radar, especially for a defending SB champion. That defense is suddenly looking like the same big play defense they had last year. Brees is clicking on all cylinders as well.
That was an example of that big play defense I was talking about. Not necessarily the most physical, or stingiest. But, they make big plays at big times. Case in point, Tracey Porter in the SB last year. Darren Sharper's play all of last year. Also, Jonathon Vilma is one of the most underrated linebackers in the game.
I don't think they're quite at least year's level yet, where they rolled over all competition. They're getting better though, but the NFC is open.
I wonder what the line will be for the 27th? If I weren't gonna be in SLC, I'd see if you wanted to catch the game at a local watering hole.
