Quick's source wasn't Cho. It was Trailblazers Head Coach Marc Iavaroni.

You have to admit that Meryl Streep (played by Steve Blake's wife) was pretty good in "The Mixum Posts Nada".

I heard that on the MSP this morning about Joel. I can't believe that's the real story. If it is, then I just lost a lot of respect for Cho (or whoever leaked this to JQ). How fair is that to Joel? The guy has been a model of professionalism from Day 1, and this is how you treat him? You let it get out that he's not going to be here after the deadline . . . through the media? You can't tell him when it will happen or where he's going, but by the way you will be moved somewhere between now and Feb 24th. And you get to hear it on the radio.

I'm not saying it's not fair to trade the guy, but this alleged leak is just unprofessional (if it's true).

Is that the reality though? It seems obvious to me that Joel has been in contact with Cho from some of his recent comments, and Joel has even talked in the media about ending his career in Milwaukee, just a little over a week ago I believe. So it seems to me you are making a whole lot over nothing. Plus in the modern day, it seems impossible to keep trades out of the media anyhow. There are too many communication tools out there to get information out into the world. I believe the days of trades being secret, are over.

    bs

I wouldn't deal Camby either at this point...I think he has more than 1 year in the tank, he appears to not really want to be traded and his value on the floor to POR far outweighs the potential gain POR could get back via trade....

Keep him, hell resign him for another 2 years...he helps Aldridge out trenmendously....hopefully POR can get a young big to work under Camby, as his minutes are slowly reduced....

I wouldn't trade him...nt unless the deal is REALLY good for POR....

Miller, I would look to deal him...not sure there is a market for him, the team has the option to pick up the last year on his deal, which could give them another year...try and make the playoffs this year still and then deal his expiring contract next year...so just a one year delay....

Pryz getting traded is a no brainer....and if you can find anyone who still thinks Rudy has more upside than he has shown, then deal him...

Trade talk is a standard part of the game. I believe Joel is quite happy cashing those checks for 7 mil while he hobles around on one leg.

Canzano says this is the plan:

    http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/john_canzano/index.ssf/2011/01/canzano_trail_blazers_winning/4774/comments-newest.html

The problem with that scenario is that Andre Miller can't be traded between the end of the season and the end of June because he has an option on his last season. Players with ending contracts or options that could make them ending can't be traded during that time period. That means Cho either has to trade Miller before the deadline or wait until a new CBA is signed.

Camby could play out the rest of his career here and not help us win a title. Why not try and get someone who might?

Draft day trades never become official until the first week of July. A trade can be agreed to in principle during the draft, though, which is why Minnesota technically drafted Brandon Roy, although that trade wasn't made official until July. Trade is made, paperwork submitted, and then once Miller's option is picked up, it becomes official when the NBA approves it.

The same thing happened with Ryan Gomes. He was "traded" on draft day, yet the trade wasn't official until early July. At that point, Portland declined to puck up his option.

Or, the 4th possiblility: Canzano was accurate in his hypothetical scenario, and you don't know the actual rules, so you criticized him out of your own ignorance. :)

Interesting trade deadline. You got a susperstar on the move. You got a new CBA coming in and teams may be trying to beat the other teams to the punch and positioning themselves in anticipation for new rules. You have franchises in financial hardship with one actually going banckrupt. You have the era of combining top players on one team so you are either a competitior or no chance in hell. You have teams looking to rebuild.

I know there is often the anti-climatic trade deadline coming and going with little activity, but I'm predicting an active trade deadline.

All of that is true in a normal season. This year the CBA expires June 30, so I don't think there's the option of completing trades until a new one is signed. Absent that, there's no salary cap amount or trading rules in place to govern the trades.

Miller's option is a team option. Portland can agree to pick up that option any time before it expires. So they can pick up his option the day of the draft, adn trade him as a normal player under contract for next season.

Aha. Gotcha. A trade could still be agreed upon, though, even without a CBA after June 30. If a new CBA is somehow agreed upon in, say, October, at that point the trade could still be made official. If there is no season, it won't matter anyhow, since Miller won't be under contract, and that trade would be dropped.

So, Cho could make a Miller draft day trade and hope for a shortened season, at worst, if he wants something in the draft, or, he can go for the sure thing (at least in terms of getting some value for Miller) at the trade deadline, but with a much smaller pool of potential suitors.

Hey, I was only pointing there is a 4th option! Klinky wasn't playing nice the other day, so I saw an opening. :)
