Well, maxie, how about we wait a few weeks and see how the tea party congresspeople vote on the bills in question? Theoretically, they are everything the tea party claims to oppose. Restrictions on individual freedom. Tax increase. We heard that the health care reform was bad because doctors & not government bureaucrats should make medical decisions; these bills require government bureaucrats to make medical decisions regardless of the wishes of doctor and patient. We were told falsely that health care reform meant government death panels. One of these bills allows hospitals to make the decision to let a woman die. I repeat, let a woman die. Not figuratively. Actually, physically, absolutely and finally die. She may want to live, but the choice is taken from her. We were told that even the reasonable and humane regulation that insurance companies could not kick people off coverage if they got sick was wrong because government should not regulate business; let the market decide. The bills define what services insurance companies can offer, regardless of market demand. And the bill raises taxes. While opposing restrictions on businesses, most tea partiers are pretty "law & order" about personal crime. But one bill redefines about 70% of rapes as not rape.

So, it's really a test. Are you for lower taxes, individual freedom, not restricting what a business can sell, no government bureaucrats making medical decisions, no death panels, individual responsibility if someone commits a crime? Or does forcing every woman to carry every pregnancy to term under every circumstance take priority? If any tea party supporter votes no because these bills are against their principles I assure you I will recognize and praise that action no matter how much I disagree with them on everything else.

You make the assumption that those people think that life begins at birth. What if they believe life begins at conception? In some peoples' mind, the freedom to abort is the freedom to commit murder. It has nothing to do with individual liberty.

    Then they'd be wrong.

Why should I compromise? For someone who believes life begins the moment that a sperm and an egg join, there's no compromise on their part.... anything past that point is murder. End of story.

I believe a child isn't a seperate living being until that child draws a breath of air after leaving the mother's womb. Until that moment, it is an extension of the mother's body, and can be cut out and removed like a tumor. No one cries for a tumor?

Weren't you the one I was trying to explain about how on some issues compromise isn't possible? I used the example of me just taking your house, but I'll compromise and let you keep your porn collection. If that was another poster, then I apologize.

That's disgusting. There are better ways to make your point than posting shocking images.

I'm pro choice as well, and I believe life begins at conception. For scientific reasons.

Society has deemed it legit to take human life for a variety of reasons, including war, executions, self defense, etc.

I see abortion as self defense.

You'd find equally gruesome pictures of these other kinds of taking of human life as well. Sucks that it happens, but it basically has to.
