How nice is it to say it's unsurprising?

    Congrats to LaMarcus.

Well deserved. Production with results, and making plays on both ends of the court. Unlike some players out there going to the all star game.

Okay, now that was funny. It's nice to see that you can drop the act for at least one post, Rudy.

LOS ANGELES -- The Orlando Magic's Dwight Howard and Portland Trail Blazers' LaMarcus Aldridge were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Feb. 7-Feb. 13.

Howard led Orlando to a 3-1 week, posting point-rebound double-doubles in all four contests. Howard has 14 consecutive double-doubles and an Eastern Conference best 44 on the season. Howard's 16.8 rpg and .667 shooting from the field led the Eastern Conference. During Orlando's 101-85 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Feb. 8, Howard recorded his fifth 20-point, 20-rebound effort of the season.

Aldridge led Portland to an undefeated week, tallying 36 or more points in all three Trail Blazers wins. Aldridge's 42 points in a 109-103 victory over Chicago on Feb. 7 were a career high. He shot .631 from the field and .846 from the free throw line on the week. Aldridge is one of three players in the league averaging 22 points and 9 rebounds, joining Howard and Blake Griffin.

I wonder if he can get it again.

    In two games, he averaged: 27.5pts, 6.5rebs, 4.5asts, 1.5stl, 1blk, 1.5to, on 56.8%FG, 92.8%FT in about 41mpg. And 2-0 record.

They lost both their games @ CHA and @ CLE (!) this week. And his stats aren't even close to Aldridge's.

    He's at 18.5pts, 8.5rebs, 2asts, 0stls, 1blk, 6tos, on 36.7%FG, 75% FT in 36mpg.

Based on ESPN's "Daily Stats Leaders" page, there were 7 Western Conference players who made the day's "top 30" twice last week--Kobe was NOT one of them. Of those 7, Pau, D-Will, and Al Jefferson lost both their games, and Blake Griffin went 1-1. The only 3 to win both their games--Aldridge, Matthews, and Monta Ellis.

Here are the 7 players' lines for this past week, sorted by average ESPN rating.

    Code:
PLAYER MIN	REB	AST	STL	BLK	TO	PTS	ESPN
    P. Gasol	38.5	15	4	1	0	1.5	23.5	49.05
    L. Aldridge	41.5	6.5	4.5	1.5	1	1.5	27.5	47.5
    A. Jefferson	38	10.5	0.5	0	1.5	0.5	27.5	44.95
    B. Griffin	43.5	10	5.5	0.5	0.5	3	24	42
    M. Ellis	41	3	5	2.5	0.5	3.5	28	41.65
    W. Matthews	42.5	7.5	2	1	0	0.5	23.5	37.75
    D. Williams	40.5	6.5	11	2.5	1	5.5	14.5	34.9
So, it looks like Aldridge is the most deserving, but I'm willing to be they give it to Pau and his 23/15. Then again, they might just factor in ASG weekend stuff and give it to Griffin. Of course, they might not even do a PotW for 3 days--looking through the news archives, it looked like they didn't last year.

I thought last year that they combined the 3 days before ASW and the 7 games after it for the PotW honors.

It doesn't matter. He was MVP of the All Star Game.
