Watch Animal Planet, and you'll see this is an everyday occurrence in America. When 2% hogs 98% of the wealth, it leaves the masses uneducated, undeveloped, and uncaring.
There's something about animal abuse that really gets me; perhaps it's because I think of them the same way I do children. They're helpless and they're dependent on their owner. I can't even bring myself to read the story in the OP. I can get the gist of it just by reading the thread.
You were probably raised by parents. Many actual poor people have no such luxury as their parents either work all the time or are dead due to lack of affordable healthcare. People in these situations are always quite low income, uneducated, and have so little to call their own that they develop psychologically defensive hoarding issues. It's the same basic out of control urge that causes Paul Allen to hoard billions of $ while people like these suffer all around him.
I have watched enough of those hoarding shows and animal cops shows to believe that those people are completely and totally mentally ill. There isn't much anger I can raise towards them because I think their brains are just fucked.
