Even though it's biased ("typical hypocritical liberal") the facts in the case are worth looking at...especially for Maris. http://www.fieldandstream.com/forums/backlash-and-blowback/anti-gun-senator-shoots-intruder
upon further review, it seems to be about a year old. Apologies if already posted. http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/2010/jan/02/74-year-old-nc-state-senator-shoots-wounds-intrude-ar-779550/
You're right but look what happened to the same guy this past weekend - TABOR CITY, NC (WECT) - The trouble continues on the property of former State Senator RC Soles. Saturday night, a man Soles once represented in court allegedly damaged some of his property. According to Tabor City police, B.J. Wright went to Soles' house around 10:30 Saturday night, destroyed two decorative lamps and busted out a window at his home. Wright had just gotten out of jail a few hours before this alleged incident. Wright posted a $50,000 bond and was out again Sunday afternoon. Monday, after failing to show up to court, the District Attorney's office successfully pushed for a $1 million bond for Wright. He's charged with a felony to flee and allude police, three counts of damaging property and three counts of 2nd degree trespassing. Wright has a history with Soles. In late summer 2009, Soles shot Kyle Blackburn on his property after he said Blackburn and Wright were attempting to break down his door. Soles pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge. Also Monday, Allen Strickland was charged and arrested in the latest vandalism at Soles' home. He posted a $10,000 bond and was out of jail Tuesday. Earlier this month, Strickland and Jackie Jordan were arrested near Soles' home in North Myrtle Beach when police accused them of trying to steal an air conditioning unit. In November, someone vandalized Soles' home in Tabor City, but was never arrested. http://www.wect.com/Global/story.asp?S=14022471
Clicking around google, there are some indications that this anti-gun Senator had an A grade from the NRA and a 60% rating from some other gun advocate group. Doesn't really sound anti-gun to me, but I need to find a reliable source to link to.
I haven't read anything about R.C. Soles, so this doesn't necessarily pertain to this instance, but I am for stricter gun laws and I am pro gun ownership. Just because someone is pushing for regulation of guns and ammunition does not mean they are anti-gun ownership (or in this case having a gun for protection).
I totally agree. Owning a firearm is no joke, and not every person should be allowed to. You should have to demonstrate a level of mastery before being able to own and operate a firearm. Case in point, we don't just let anyone join the military and fight. They have to demonstrate a level of understanding before actually entering the field of battle.
You ever been in the military? Not being sarcastic, but there are some, how should i say this, stupid people in there. I mean stupid as in learning disability too.
and some of them are the best shots I know. Target alignment and weapon safety rules aren't exactly rocket surgery.
Here's the best I can find to refute that Senator Soles is "anti-gun." KYANAGUNS Homepage - Perhaps not the most scholarly source, but its doesn't look like they'd BS on gun control reports. Senator Soles was rated at B+, but was upgraded to an A before retiring. So in googling, anti-gun is false, accused pedophile (if you want to pin a negative title on him because he's a democrat) is applicable.
I think that's an old wive's tale. I think they take just about anyone they can talk into joining. In my entire life I have never met anyone who was rejected by the military. Have you?
Multiple people. If you're overweight, don't pass the test, if you're a felon, if you're injured, if you have medical issues above the threshold, if you've been arrested for domestic disputes, if you've done more drugs than "experimentation" (20x for marijuana, don't know the rules for the "harder ones"). I watched a guy go through crack withdrawal right in front of me in boot camp. He went home. Yes, I've seen plenty and had to kick out more after they made it in.
I always said that if I heard talk of a draft coming, as long as there were six months time before it happened I could gain enough weight to be let off not matter what I weighed at the start. MMMMMMMMM Milkshakes are fattening.
