Meh. Who wants Williams anyway? It's not like he's young, or one of the best in the league at his position.
Yup, They are being proactive, for once. Seems like Uncle Paul is not willing/ready to do so now. Hope it does not come to bite us in the rear in a year or two.
What? You mean not every team let's there expiring contracts just leave for nothing? In all seriousness, Utah might be making another move because Jefferson, Milsap, Favors is a tad redundant.
Am I just down in the dumps about this trade deadline, or is Paul Allen starting to resemble Al Davis as an owner? he just seems to be thinking about things in the oddest way.
I'd love to see the Blazers get in on that, but given the treatment that we've given them in the recent past and the fact that they're in our division, I'm not holding my breath.
I have no effin clue. Maybe they see something in Roy's condition that we do not. Maybe they really wanted Harris but were trumped by a team willing to blow it all. There are, at this point, reasons to be optimistic but also be worried about where this franchise is going. Time will tell, I suppose.
Yeah. My hope is that Utah front office people consider their jobs more tied to the results than to the PR fall-out of trading with Portland. I'd love to snag Millsap. If Portland moves Aldridge to center, Millsap would fit next to him quite well. One thing to consider is that casual Utah fans (and casual fans pretty much always vastly outnumber the hardcore in any fanbase except the Green Bay Packers') probably have no idea about "toxic contracts" and Portland's role in what has unfolded. I'm sure hardcore Utah fans (the ones who would post on the Internet and all) hate Portland, but since they're a minority within the fanbase, Utah might be able to get away with trading with Portland.
Trust me on this as someone who lived in Utah for a decade. The JAZZ would never trade Deron Willimam to the Blazers in a MILLION fucking years. Not an option! On anothr note......Holy Shit if that is true about him going to NJ. Major panick move by Utah.
Panic Move? I don't think so...Deron was gone when his contract was up, he knew it, they knew it and they were PROACTIVE...a concept that is foreign to the pathetic POR front office... Favors...good young big man prospect... Harris....good PG...no Deron, but a quality PG in his prime... 2 1st round picks - one a GS pick which likely will be in the lottery somewhere, b\c that team isn't going anywhere.....
The other one is NJs pick this year. Depending on how protected it is, the Jazz could have gotten two lottery picks.
I think NJ will make the playoffs.... Bold move by Utah, there is a reason they are a better run franchise that disfunction junction, Portland OR....
Yes a, Raef LaFrentz expiring is on par with a Deron Williams expiring. Also didn't we end up getting Miller with the freed space from LaFrentz expiring? Anyone who thinks we could have got Williams is delusional. A) Utah isn't going to enrich their division rival. B) Williams wanted to go to NY, Brooklyn is "close"... Nets have a chance at convincing Williams that they're the next best thing to NYK. PDX would have zero chance and Williams would have been gone after next season.
Why? There's only 25 games left on the schedule and they are 8 games out. It's possible, but extremely unlikely.
I was talking about the Blazers trying to make a move to get one of Utah's PFs after the Williams deal goes down. I don't see that as very likely for the reasons I posted.
These types of anectdotes are nothing new; we've been hearing for awhile that the Allen is a bit of micro-manager and meddler. Maybe it's always been this way? But I think Paul Allen is treading dangerously close to Al Davis territory here. I can understand trying maintain a winning mentality, but with a team this thin and broken, letting your strategic decision making about the team get swayed by a 6 game winning streak, against a pretty weak slate of opponents, doesn't exactly fill me with confidence regarding this team's future prospects. It's going to be hard enough with guys fleeing left and right to the big market teams for this team to remain competitive (so maybe it doesn't make any difference what moves are or are not made) but "letting it ride?" Ugh.
This isn't about Deron fucking Williams...I agree, POR was NEVER going to get him....it is about a front office that seems incapable of getting out of thier own damm way...too many talking heads, too many "buddies" of Allen whispering in his ear and wanting to play fantasy GM...and worst of all an owner who cannot just let the EXPERTS do there fucking job... Here you have a chance to trade aging players for young players\picks and build for the future...AND STILL make the playoffs! It is a win\win.. but no no no, let's keep all of our aging assets...to maybe end up a spot better in the playoffs? (at #5...or likely in the same damm spot regardless of trades or not)....and then get nothing for those assets.... It is called VISON...and Allen and his dipshit buddies don't have an inkling of it...Probably why almost everything he touches turns to shit....
