I just like to call people what they would introduce themselves as. And I'm 100% sure you won't hear any of us calling ourselves British, you god damn North Americans.
You guys need to rekindle the greatness of the feeling of what it means to be British, IMO. And, yes, I know we're called North Americans. I don't really refer to myself as "American" very often, given there are two CONTINENTS with "America" in their name. I usually say I'm from the US. Or from Seattle. It doesn't mean I'm not a North American nor an American, however. Out of curiosity, though: would you say he has an English accent? Or a Welsh accent? And do you think it's reasonable for everyone outside of the UK to be able to tell the difference? Ed O.
Seems to me, historically, that you guys have gone back and forth on what you call yourselves. There was a time, however, that you did call yourselves British. Do you say you're from England or from Great Britain?
Yeah, that's before Wales and Scotland (not gonna include NI because they're still our bitches) started to hate us! Hehe. Well, they always hated us, but we kept them chained up. I would never say Great Britain. Britain is a geographical term for Scotland, Wales, and England -- Just that island. United Kingdom includes England, Scotland, NI, and Wales (Ilse of White, Jersey, etc). I just say I'm English, sup? Anyway, enough hijacking.
Nope, I don't expect people to understand where people are from, that is true. I expect Europeans to be able to tell the difference but that's just because of how close we are to mainland Europe. Bale has an English accent to my ears. I wish we could all be "British" but those Scots are pricks!
Who cars what the Brits say anyway. The can't speak fucking English. They call the queen the "Lord of Mann". 'Nuf said.
And although its a part of the UK, people born in Northern Ireland can choose to be a "British" citizen, "Irish" citizen, or both. Also I believe those who live in Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, whatever the hell else comprises the UK may vote on English ballots but English people may not vote in any of NI, Wales, Scotland, etc.'s elections.
I was in Modesto at the Rally For Renner showing of the Oscars at the State Theater there. My sister is married to Jeremy Renner's Dad. Jeremy, who grew up in Modesto, was nominated for The Town. No real upsets, a couple nice speeches esp Portman's, the hosts were just okay, Kirk Douglas was hilarious. The only nominated film I didn't see was Winter's Bone. Of the acting performances, I also didn't see Animal Kingdom. Lots of fun movies this year that weren't nominated. Despicable Me and Tangled were wonderful movies and didn't get nominated for Best Animated Feature. I also though Get Him To The Greek was fantastic. Comedies don't get enough, if any, praise at the Oscars.
