How many moms on this board? How come every time men act dumb they say they are acting like women, when it's men doing it? Just wondering.
Fans of anything who are on the internet are easy targets because they are by definition zealots, and zealotry is easy to mock. It lacks the irony and self-awareness of normal fandom, or casual like. If you like something enough to profess love for it in front of strangers then you're by definition a target for ridicule. Bill Simmons is that guy who will ridicule you. Does that make him a bully? Yep. Does it change the fact that we are easy targets? Nope. I still think Simmons can take a long walk off a short pier for his fanbaiting. Canzano does the same thing, and can also do likewise. But we set ourselves up for it by interacting with the jackholes.
So what's your opinion on the term "Deadbeat Dads"? I've never had an issue with you, crandc, because you and I see eye-to-eye on a lot of stuff, but your hypersensitivity to anything relating to gender inequality lately is becoming tiring. Can you tone down your outrage level a tad, please? Not every man is out to subjugate anything with a vagina every minute of every day.
I think he means the fans act like moms at soccer games cheering on their kid. Their kid is great, everything their kid does is great, etc. etc.
Hulk Angry! Sorry, but it's just a visual representation that I get once in a while on this board while reading things from some people.
Yup. Gender is largely irrelevant ... But if he was describing fans as being "Soccer Dads" I suppose that would mean they are ready and willing to fight anybody who touches their kid or says their kid sucks. It's a conundrum.
I don't think I'm particularly angry these days. Snarky, cynical, and aloof? Yes. Angry? I just don't see it.
Those are football, basketball, and baseball dads. Soccer dads are on their knees praying that their son decides to play a real sport.
I forgot hockeydads to my list. Baseball is a real sport that requires more than one athletic skill (outside of being a pitcher). Soccer is kicking a ball. Toddlers can kick a ball.
