I think we should consider the ENTIRE finish of both games, and not just the last shot. Roy wins that hands down. Roy vs Houston, 2008 OR last night
Roy was huge in the Houston game but last night's means a little more to me because it was more of a total team effort and Nate calling the right play at the right time.
Agreed, and last night, it was like each play built up more excitement than the last...all the way to the finish.
30 footer when you are down by one? Not exactly the PERFECT play, but it worked. If that was the play...
Play? I think in the Houston game the play was just to give the ball to Roy because he was en fuego! IMO last night's was just a better call because it got us a much higher percentage shot. Both were great, last night's was just a little better.
If Roy didn't sink that hail mary, then we lose. If Nic didn't make his shot, then we go into overtime. Roy's shot redeemed his epic fail of fouling Yao, giving him the and-one for a one point lead against us. When I saw Roy catching it that far out, I thought we were done. But somehow the shot went in. Batum's shot was pretty easy, but Dre had a difficult pass. Both plays were great, but I think Roy's shot edges out Nic's.
I know, I thought it was going to come out. Couldn't believe it stayed in. Nice though that it took a little bit so that time expired. At the time I thought they might put like a tenth of a sec on the clock.
I voted Roy's just because I felt like SA messed up a ton in order to give us a chance, while all the plays by both teams in the HOU game were executed well and each team just kept making awesome shot after awesome shot.
Ya, I got to give it to Roy. Plus he hit a shot just before that too. I mean you have to give credit to Batum though for hitting two clutch FTs as well. Damn, tough call. I'm going with can't decide.
Roy's made me more excited, because it felt like one of the shining moments in the rise of a great player. Objectively, last night's finish was probably better due to the steals that preceded the final shot. But Roy's finish had the wow factor and, as I said, felt emblematic of Roy potentially rising toward being one of the elite players in the game.
Let's face it, Roy shot has a hint (or stronger) of luck to it . . . you don't see Roy heaving up many 30 footer, even when open. The Batum lob was well designed play (really was classic game winning shot for the team that leads the league in lobs) Also, SA (a well coached team) tried the exact same play right before and didn't come close to executing it correctly. More impressive last play of the game . . . last night, in my book.
