For Today................04/03/11 Possible clinchings/eliminations for Sunday: SAN ANTONIO clinches division title with a win AND a Dallas loss. DENVER clinches a playoff spot with a win OR a Houston loss. PORTLAND clinches a playoff spot with a win AND a Houston loss. PHOENIX is eliminated with a loss AND a New Orleans win. MIAMI clinches division title with a win AND an Orlando loss. NEW YORK clinches a playoff spot with a win AND a Charlotte loss.
Things are looking good for the Blazers. Tonight could be the night. Rockets playing Atlanta is a tough game for the Rockets.
Looking like Orlando/Atlanta is set in stone and OKC/Denver is looking very likely. Heat are playing Knicks or Sixers. I don't see them getting the #1 seed though I think Boston can. They have a game coming up against Chicago and I believe they have the tie breaker.
Yep, Blazers magic number is 1. It will be a tough break if we lose against the Warriors and Houston wins.
Possible clinchings/eliminations for Tuesday: PORTLAND clinches a playoff spot if one of the following occurs: 1) HOU loss 2) POR win + MEM win
It's hard to do, but right now we have to focus on our own business. This GS game feels like a trap game to me. We control our own destiny. We win out, we're in.
The only way POR can miss the playoffs in a tie with HOU is in a four-way tie with MEM and NO. Assuming POR wins tonight and loses remaining games and HOU wins remaining games, the tiebreaker would look like this: POR: 1-3 vs. NO; 1-2 vs. Mem; 2-1 vs. Hou. -- TOT 4-6 NO: 3-1 vs. Por; 2-2 or 3-1 vs. Mem; 2-2 vs. Hou. -- TOT 7-5 or 8-4 MEM: 2-1 vs. NO; 2-2 or 1-3 vs. Mem; 1-3 vs. Hou. -- TOT 5-6 or 4-7 HOU: 1-2 vs. Por; 2-2 vs. NO; 3-1 vs. Mem. -- TOT 6-5 Three of the four teams would make the playoffs. Where POR finishes in tiebreaker depends on who wins the remaining NO-MEM game. If NO wins, then POR would finish third and make the playoffs (4-6 record to MEM 4-7); if MEM wins, POR would miss the playoffs (4-6 record to 7-5 for NO; 5-6 for MEM and 6-5 for HOU). If POR and MEM win tonight, POR would have 46 wins and MEM 45...MEM would then have to beat POR for POR to lose remaining games -- which gets them to 46 wins, POR would then have to lose to NO to create a possible 4-way tie... that would drop their h2h record in the tiebreaker below POR as listed above. If MEM does not win tonight, they can then beat POR, lose to NO and win any other game to create the possible 4-way tie and POR could miss out on the playoffs.
Portland movement scenarios: - New Orleans wins: Portland is bumped to 7th Dallas movement scenarios: (Dallas won’t actually shift in the standings due to the way tiebreakers stand, but this is how the games could impact them.) - Dallas wins, L.A wins: no change - Dallas wins, Oklahoma City wins: Dallas ties L.A. (Lakers win the tiebreaker 2-1) - Dallas loses, Oklahoma City wins: Dallas ties OKC (Dallas wins the tiebreaker 2-1)
New Orleans Hornets (46-33) vs. Memphis Grizzlies (45-34) This is a huge game. New Orleans is in 7th and Memphis is in 8th. A Hornets win moves them into 6th and bumps the Trail Blazers to 7th. A Memphis win will tie them with NOLA. (NOLA wins with the Division record tiebreaker and holds onto 7th.) Phoenix Suns (38-41) vs. Dallas Mavericks (54-25) The Mavs are in 3rd in the West. They trail the Lakers by one full game and lead the Thunder by the same. (See movement scenarios above.) Oklahoma City Thunder (53-26) vs. L.A. Lakers (55-24) The Lakers are in 2nd and the Thunder are in 4th. They’re each separated from Dallas by one full game. (See movement scenarios above.)
