    That's a good point. Maybe his parents traded him for a boy born in Kenya. The real Barack Obama is probably herding goats in Kenya right now, while the occupant of the White House is (are you ready for this?) not half-white after all!

    I don't care one way or the other. I'd like to believe that whoever signed off on his candidacy 3 years ago wasn't totally corrupt. And it's not like if he WAS found to be Kenyan they'd revoke any policies, treaties or laws done on his watch.

    That said, what took so long? I mean, you can't be a private in the army without a birth certificate.

    Nothing took so long. He produced a certificate of live birth long ago, which is functionally equivalent. Only nutcases have been claiming that he's provided no proof of being born in the US.

    I still look forward to the results of Trump's investigations. And I continue to hope he does well in the Republican primaries. :)

    I was thinking the opposite. Who is the Hawaii guy who says so, and how do we know he really works for the State of Hawaii? Maybe he represents the shadow government, not the official one. How do we know this is the real State of Hawaii talking?

    And once you prove that this guy really represents the real State government, which is going to be hard unless you fly there and check out that his office is in the Capitol building and his coworkers vouch for him that he really does show up for work there sometimes, the next question I have is how does the State government know it hasn't been fooled? Someone with Obama's presidential powers could easily slip a piece of paper into their archived file cabinets in a warehouse where they keep their dusty old stuff and the watchman sleeps through his shift. Has this supposed birth certificate been tested by archaeologists with some test like cobalt-235? Maybe this came from the Shroud of Turin. It's amazing that this was found in the same week Glen Beck was fired for saying a caliphate is going to take over part of Europe. Fox should check out the possible connection and I'm sure they will, thank goodness.

    I have a lot more ideas but let's see what you guys do with the leads I provided first.

    Cobalt-235 wouldn't be the best choice, since it would be carrying 173 more neutrons than the highest "stable" nuclide, and 160 more than is physically possible.

    The problem is that a Certificate of Live Birth isn't the same as a Long Form Birth Certificate, and that's what Donald Trump and his ilk are demanding to see.

    someone please fill in the gaps in my knowledge.

    What is the difference b/w the Long Form Certificate and the Certificate of Live Birth? Are you supposed to have both? If they're "functionally equivalent", then why are there two of them? Should I have a "Long Form" certificate AND a "Live Birth" certificate for my 1-y/o daughter? AFAIK, I just have a "birth certificate" with the county's stamp/seal on it for her. I know for a fact that all I have in the safe at home is one each of a birth certificate-type document for my wife and I.

    And are the "birthers" attempting to say that the "certificate of live birth" is not as robust, or easier forged or something, than a "long form birth certificate"?

    Again, someone signed off on his candidacy being legit, so I believe him if he says he was born here. I choose not to think that that someone was corrupt. I also know that the policies won't get rolled back if he is deemed to be Kenyan or whatever. But this issue confuses me.

    Yeah, I actually deleted my post because I realized that birthers are arguing about "certification" versus "certificate."

    Here's something more relevant, then, from the same article:

    Perhaps you'd argue that "in almost all circumstances" doesn't include this. In which case, I'd like to see evidence that this is a case where only long-form is legally sufficient.
