I demand to see the documentation for the origin of this thread! Perhaps it was really started on RealGM... or worse.

Weird. You'd think they would have gotten different ones, since they aren't Siamese twins.

It certainly does. Questions such as "why do I waste my time like this?"

Are you going through a rough patch of your life? You did used to make me laugh. Now, it seems as if you're just going through the motions. You need a new muse.

Seriously, if this were Bush, the Dems would be going after it full speed ahead.

That doesn't make it any less stupid, though.

No, but it makes it very hypocritical. For Democrats to brush it off and say it's "stupid" is unfair. The man currently holds the most important job in the country. If I were to provide false information or questionable information on a job application, I would be asked to provide proof in the form of something tangible. I don't think it's too much to ask of the President to show something that would prove he's a legal citizen of American birth when it's part of the requirements for the job.

Sure. There's no question but what if the tables were turned there would be many people calling for Bush's birth certificate (or, perhaps, for his national guard records, which are actually slightly more relevant, since Bush was a supposed adult at the time. Pretty sure Obama, wherever he was born, had no choice about the location.)

Not at all. It is stupid. It's incredibly stupid. It's something that just doesn't matter.

The man currently holds the most important job in the country, and you think the location where he emerged from the womb is somehow relevant? Aside from the technical rule of law which people are hoping to catch him on, what difference does it actually make where he was born?

Plus, of course, it is obvious to anyone who isn't a nutcase that he actually was born in Honolulu, the newspaper clippings are sufficient evidence of that.

Trump has shifted his focus to the Tony Rezko land deal. There is actually some substance there. I'd pay to watch Trump debate Obama.

I do not know - Bush's suspect military service got a lot less press than this... - sure it was mentioned - but did not seem to drag on and on and brought up again and again...

Are you kidding? Dan Rather ultimately lost his job over airing fraudulent memos just two months prior to the general election, and Bush was forced to release all of his ANG papers because the major media would not stop hounding him about it.

The media would never have let Bush spend a few million dollars to not release something as simple as his actual birth certificate.

If it were George W. Bush, I'd be going after it full speed ahead, much less the Democrats. It's an important question, and moreover, one that is easily answered.

No, if this were Bush hiding his background , and he had destroyed the records of how he abandoned his post for a year during the Vietnam war to campaign for politicians, Republicans would get Dan Rather fired for telling the story, to make an example of him to other reporters and thus silence the issue in the 2004 election, while simultaneously claiming that the Democratic candidate had faked his 3 Purple Hearts.

If Obama gets major news anchors fired for reporting this birther stuff, and falsely transfers the exact same criticism of faking his background to his presidential opponent, THEN there will be some equivalence.

Edit: I see others raised this gauntlet after your post.

My favorite Bush memo is the one I posted that is titled "CYA". How that didn't raise any red flags at CBS tells me a lot about our so-called journalists.

I am not kidding you. I specifically talked about the "democrats" comment. Dan Rather was a journalist, not a Democrat candidate. Hair-piece is a Republican candidate. It's really not hard to see the difference if you pay attention to the details.

Why would a Democratic candidate make an issue of something that the media is beating to death for them?

That should be a tell for you, if you pay attention to the details. Same with you calling Trump a GOP candidate, if you pay attention to the details...

This is quite silly. The fact is that the Democrats did not go around making these claims to the degree that the Republicans do - and to suggest they would have if the press did not is putting words into their mouths. Maybe they would have, maybe they would not have. The facts are that they did not.

" I started as a Republican, and I finished as a Republican. That’s where I want to be.”"

    http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=42306

He is also saying that he plans to try and win the republican nomination.

    http://content.usatoday.com/communi...ld-trump-2012-presidential-race-bill-cosby-/1

"The concern is if I don't win will I run as an independent, and I think the answer is probably yes."

At this point - he is a republican and plans to try to win the republican nomination. As long as the Republican party does not try to wash their hands from him - the statement is factually correct.

"I am a Republican," Trump said of his party affiliation. "I would run as a Republican, yes."

    ^^Hadn't seen that, Andalusian...thanks.

I'd assumed he'd be making a Perot-style run on his own. But it seems from your links that that's a backup plan if he doesn't get the R nomination. Which I don't think is likely, but I didn't think Obama could beat out Hillary, so what do I know?

Seems to me if The Donald runs as a third party candidate, Obama is pretty much guaranteed reelection.

I'm plenty satisfied Obama is qualified. I'm amused that the side so violently defending Obama now was equally loony about W's military records.
