Miller/Roy/Matthews/Wallace/LMA is the best unit so far in this series. Roy is a part of the top 7 units. http://www.nba.com/statistics/plusminus/plusminus_sort.jsp?pcomb=5&season=42010&split=9&team=Trail Blazers Also, not a single starter is a plus after 4 games. http://www.nba.com/statistics/plusminus/plusminus_sort.jsp?pcomb=1&season=42010&split=9&team=Trail Blazers
I wouldn't read much into a four game sample of +/- ... especially when we're talking about Roy coming off one of the most remarkable 12 minute runs in NBA playoffs history. He's had two good games and two bad games -- fortunately with the good ones coming in sequence last -- Hopefully he has another productive night tonight and then Thursday.
Roy is still a plus, even when throwing out Game 4. Also, the starters are even more of a net negative when you throw out Game 4. There was no excuse for Roy not playing down the stretch in Game 2, and it could cost the Blazers the series, IMO.
Given that these are 4 games against the same team - with the upcoming games against the same team - I think you are looking at it wrong. It is not a good statistical sample size in general - but probably gives us a good idea for this specific series based on matchups.
I don't know if I am reading correctly, but there seems to be something wrong with the statistics on that site. The total minutes for all units of Portland over four games is only about 50. I checked to make sure i was looking at "all games" and I also checked another team (Boston) and saw they had many more minutes, several times more.
It is only showing the plus minutes, and it cuts off at -1. The Blazers have trailed much more than they have led, and the more negative units aren't shown on the link. I can't figure out how to ge to Page 2, but that's where the bulk of the Blazers minutes have been, which is in the minus side of things.
Here's the rest of it. http://www.nba.com/statistics/plusminus/plusminus_sort.jsp?pcomb=5&season=42010&split=9&team=Trail+Blazers&pager.offset=25
Thanks for that. This gives a more complete picture. We find out that Roy played about twice as many minutes with units that had +/-'s ranging from -2 to -5, with the one with the most minutes at -4. I'm just pointing this out to show how we need the complete picture when looking at statistics; not as a knock on Roy. Obviously just using the eyeball test he can have a tremendous positive effect on the team. And PapaG; I was not able to isolate out game 4, only able to separate home and away games; how did you do that?
