    Yes, because people looked just as hard into the fact that John McCain was born outside of the United States (in Panama). No one gave a second glance to his citizenship. You want to tell me again that had nothing to do with the color of his skin? Denial isn't just a river in Egypt. The more you claim faux outrage at your true colors (pun intended) being called out, the more it's validated.

    My guess is the Obama Administration released it because they did internal polling that showed that more people thought it was a legitimate issue than those that thought the "birthers" were just crazies. My guess is that Trump's pushing the issue tipped the scales, so the political calculus was made to finally show it.

    This whole thing has seemed like a real waste of time to me.

    A big issue WAS made out of McCain's birthplace and citizenship issue.

    However, unlike Obama, he quickly cleared up the questions by providing full and complete documentation. Thus, no lingering controversy.

On that note, I dislike Nancy Pelosi because she's Italian and Harry Reid because he's still in the closet.

    Policies be fucking damned, your ilk is trying to claim that HE ISN'T EVEN ALLOWED TO BE PRESIDENT. That goes a long way from disagreeing about his policies. And you have no root cause basis for this other than the color of his skin and the sound of his name. NONE.

    I was never that concerned about where he was born, although I'm not sure why it took so long for him to do what 80% (90%? 75%?) of the people who had doubts about it wanted: to release a copy of his actual birth certificate.

    I can understand how he doesn't want to give an inch and then have a mile asked for, but it seems like he could have nipped this in the bud two years ago.

    As for questioning the veracity of the birth certificate: I'm no expert on that topic, nor on Photoshop, but if someone WANTED to fake a birth certificate image, they could do it so you couldn't tell it wasn't real. I'm not buying for a second that there's some high-level conspiracy that can't find a good Photoshop guy.

    Or is "his ilk" people that think a President should be able to prove that he or she is eligible?

    If it's the latter, then we can discuss what burden of proof is reasonable.

    If it's the former--which it appears to be--then I think you're seeing what you want to see and you're being illogical. You're claiming that people are racist because they're acting the way racists act, but you're ignoring that they're acting the way that many non-racists would act, as well.

    If you don't want to back up your assertion (that "his ilk" is a racist one), then don't make it. It is insulting to those at whom you cast aspersions as well towards others (like me) who read the board.
