I agree we need shooters, however we do not need another undersized point guard who does not play defense. (We already have one from Australia)
if you want a guy who had an off yr shooting after a very good 2009/2010 and who IMO is a better all around PG, then I think Felton is the better choice
Brooks is significantly better than Mills. That comparison is silly. And certainly he's small, but with Miller and Roy to defend the bigger guards, he would give us a better look. He's a good enough scorer to play off Roy as a 1/2, as well.
if he's thought to have NBA ability, this would seem to be the offseason that Portland gives him a legit shot. Shooting is a strong suit STOMP
Let's also ignore the fact that his reaction to being benched was to whine and pout and play crappy. barfo
Roy whined and pouted and then averaged 21 points in Portland's next two games, giving us our only two wins in the playoffs, so he does have that going for him.
For the right price I wouldn't mind Calderon from Toronto. Had an off year last year but the three previous years he played with a Bosh he shot 48% and 40% from 3.
Their cumulative comparison isn't exactly a slam dunk for Brooks, either: http://bkref.com/tiny/nFMSy They look to be about the same player, except that Mills has the excuse of being inexperienced and young. Aaron Brooks doesn't have that excuse.
IF the team needs more shooters (and I agree with the premise), then there are a couple of avenues. One is that one-dimensional, pure-shooter guys generally fall in the draft. Clay Thompson, for instance, might be available for $3M at some point. Though I'm not sure bringing in a multiply-kicked-off-his-team-for-marijuana-offenses guy to Portland would be the best environment, but what do I know? The second is that, if you're looking for a guy who can run all day, be hungry enough to improve however Nate and the staff can help him, and bury a bunch of 3pt shots, look to the D-League for guys like Danny Greene, Moses Ehambe and Jamar Smith. Or just go get Rashad McCants. GSW steals guys like Anthony Morrow every year from there.
I agree, Brooks' numbers don't look much better. However, you have to take into account the teams gameplan for Brooks way more than they would Mills. I think Brooks would be an upgrade, but I'm not saying he would turn the franchise into title contenders.
