The optimal strategy would have been to say he was dead. Send him to gitmo and torture the shit out of him until he was of no more use then kill him quietly. The intelligence community was very competent in the most important aspect . . . they got bin Laden. Maybe we can keep our eye on the ball in this historic moment.

 

"wanted dead or alive" doesn't mean the same thing as "wanted dead". There are either orders to "capture or kill" or "shoot on sight". Apparently this was a "shoot on site" order to assassinate bin laden.

Why do we even put Khalid Shiek Mohammed through a trial. Why not shoot him and say he was "resisting" in prison? This is the same administration who wanted to try KSM..you know..the guy who actually planned 9/11... in a civilian court in Manhattan for fucks sake.

Apparently not. The competent thing to do would be to take him alive and actually make him accountable. I guess he is more valuable dead than alive, and there is no need for a lengthy process of bringing him to justice when putting a bullet in his head is the "easy thing to do".
