Newspeople are bending over backwards to destroy the developing meme that the "moderate" Muslim is a myth. If there were an imam to come out and denounce this kind of vitriol, it would be shown everywhere.

 

I don't buy that. There's no need to destroy the "myth of the moderate Muslim" because it is bullshit anyway. And what does "moderate" even mean in this case? I have a feeling that the spectrum of politics in the Muslim world doesn't fit our left/middle/right continuum that we can't seem to think outside of. Anyway.

After 9/11, there was an outpouring of Muslim scholars that denounced terrorism and refuted much of Osama bin Laden's Islamic writings. A lot of it was even covered in the U.S. mainstream media. But this was 9/11. This caused two wars. Yusuf Qaradawi isn't going to open his next show by talking about one imam at al-Aqsa that has some shit to say about the US on youtube.

 

I have no problem disagreeing with you and I imagine you think the same way.

Islam has a problem within its own religion. It needs to clean up its own mess or it has no basis to complain when we do it for them. As has been said before, all it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing. It's time for the assumed peaceful majority of Muslims to take back their religion. If not, we have to assume they share the ends of the most vitriolic members of their religion.

Collect all the data you can on a problem without bias toward a conclusion. Once those data have been gathered and organized, however, a conclusion must be drawn. It means discerning the truth from the noise, which is the really hard part. Problems are rarely clean, but the solutions are there if you have the discipline to make hard decisions.
