As most of you know by now, Randy Orton defeated Christian to win the WWE World Title on last night's WWE SmackDown! broadcast. This is Orton's eighth run as champion. Source: EWN
I haven't watched SD from last night yet, but this kinda shocks me. I expected Christian's reign to be short lived, but I figured it'd at least last a month or so. Honestly, what was the point of giving him the title if you're going to take it away from him after just a few days as champ?
They simply screwed Christian, totally. They only gave him two days in WWE broadcasting days and five days in real-life terms. This is insane, WWE are reportedly being shocked about the upset of Christian loosing; I'm glad their shocked. Christian is champion material, remember when he held the ECW championship? They don't think Christian was the one able to push the Smackdown brand which is just not trusting your very own veteran, the reason why he can't do this is because they didn't push him, they made him Job for 2010. They're doing the same with Chris Master's making him job, that's just stupid. They could make him feud with Wade Barret and put the Intercontinental strap on him and make him more dominating, then obviously still feuding with Wade Barret; but not burying Wade Barret.
I love Christian...but he's not championship material for one reason. It has nothing to do with his in ring ability, mic ability, nothing like that. It's much simpler. He's not marketable. Period. He may be a great in-ring guy, but it's hard to market the SmackDown brand with him being the champ.
If he put on about 30 pounds of muscle, and lost the weird way he talks, he might be marketable. Edge wasn't really championship material when he became a 'contender'.
I honestly don't think it has anything to do with his look. Jeff Hardy was about the same size, and he was believable as a champ. The problem Christian has is that he's never been seen as a guy that can lead a brand. Orton is that guy, and that's why he's the champ right now. He's been a top guy in the industry for years now, and the whole point in bringing him to SmackDown was to be the head guy on the brand, and that's exactly what they're doing by giving him the belt so quickly.
