I've never understood the Democrats' argument that requiring ID disenfranchises voters, when the reality is that one illegally cast ballot disenfranchises one legitimate voter. The country rarely agrees at a 75% level for anything, yet some Democratic governors and vetoing Voter ID bills passed overwhelming by state legislatures.

If I were a member of Congress, I'd intoduce a bill that stated that any state who does not require identification to vote will not have its votes counted in a national election (which would basically be the presidential race).

Yeah, it's a pain in the ass to go to the DMV after every election to get a new license, though. I wish they'd mail the old one back after they verify my ballot.

I actually had my ballot challenged in the 2010 fall election because apparently I signed my name a bit differently than what they had on record. I even had to re-register to vote for the election a few weeks ago. I had to show my ID to be allowed to re-register at the Washington County Courthouse.

So ... what was your point again?

Another day, another idiotic post. They do verify your ballot by comparing the signature on your outer envelope to what they have on record prior to the privacy envelope being removed and placed into the pile to be counted. Plus, you need your ID to be able to register to vote.

    You shouldn't drink and vote.

That's the best part of voting by mail! A glass or two of a robust Cabernet Sauvignon, some hor d'oeuvres, debate things with my wife as read through the various races, measures, and levies, and then fill out our ballots (she is a registered Democrat, but she's basically a Reagan Democrat) to the best of our freshly educated abilities.

    Good times!

Technically you don't since you can register to vote at the DMV when you renew your drivers license.

True, but Motor Voter was tied into the fact that an official ID was needed in order to be able to vote.

My point was that you have to prove your identity in the state of Oregon in order to get a ballot.

No, you have to prove your identity to be signed up to vote. To get a ballot you just have to check your mailbox.

Don't you need to sign up to vote AND check your mailbox?

And since you need to prove your identity to sign up to vote, then some property of logic would seem to indicate you need to prove your identity to get a ballot...

I'm just having some fun with my friend Papa G. Isn't there a Prius you can go rear end?

You then have to verify you ballot by an on the record signature. Oregon's voting security actually has two spots to catch fraud. The first is registering, and the second is signing your ballot.

In some states, you can walk into a voting center, register to vote without showing an ID, and then cast a ballot. If you're arguing for that system, well, we'll just have to disagree.

I love vote by mail. It's those electronic voting machines that other states use that I don't trust.

He just spent all morning standing in the Home Depot parking lot looking for work, and you want him to go back?
