Or that has a bad contract they want to get off the books right away. Miller has a non guaranteed contract, so a team facing financial issues could instantly save 7 million bucks this season by trading for him and waiving him, while also picking up a cheap young player with promise or a draft pick

You're correct, that won't happen. At best I'm thinking we might be able to get a guy like Sessions (if the Cavs draft Irving) Harris (if the Jazz draft Knight) or Felton ... and it's going to take more than Miller + Rudy + scrubs/euros/bad picks to get there.

My opinion, based on absolutely nothing, is that it would not take that much to get Sessions, I think the Cavs would like to get his two year contract off their books.

Funny how everyone who signs him is in such a hurry to dump him. Oh wait a minute - no it isn't. Because he SUCKS. He's like the poor man's Sergio: solid assist numbers if he gets minutes but doesn't defend AT ALL and can't hit a shot. He has TERRIBLE +/- numbers.

    Petteri finally gets his chance!!!!

(Actually, if Dre really was traded, I betcha Brandon would be our starting PG.)

Why? he makes relatively little money (about 4 or 5 million IIRC?) and the lockout is probably going to wipe out one of his years anyway. If they move him it's because he's redundant with Davis being there along with Irving and they'll want to get some value probably at a wing position.

Well, I was gonna say that backup point guards don't have much value as there must be some decent ones who will be free agents, but then I looked up free agent point guards and saw names like ike James, Jamal Tinsley and Orien Greene. So maybe there is a reason we don't have a decent backup PG.

Here's a suggested trade for the #5 pick:

Andre + Camby for Calderon, Kleiza and Barbosa and the #5

(The link has Amir Johnson instead of Barbosa because Trade Machine won't let me include Barbosa because he has a player option for next year. I'm assuming he'll exercise it (despite rumors to the contrary) because what's to lose? If there's a lockout, he can go play in Brazil anyway, and there's no way he'll get close to that in Brazil.)

This would be dumping a bunch of ugly salary for Toronto while at the same time getting better defensively. If we throw in the usual $3M of PAM, how can they resist?

We keep Calderon (or trade him to the Lakers so he can realize his dream), cut the other two and draft...?

Interesting, but I have a hard time believing that they would do it without getting something in the way of talent back.

An idea I have for the second pick (which is being shopped hard according to Chad Ford) is

    Batum + Miller + Future 1st protected for Webster + Ridnour + #2

They are excited about getting Rubio over and also have Flynn, but could use a Vet to guide those guys and provide leadership to the team. They get their new starting SF in a talented Batum who is still young and yet has several years of solid playing time under him. They also get rid of Webs who they were disappointed in.

I'd consider that a steal for us, and I don't think MIN would give up on the chance to get Williams or Kanter just for the promise of Batum and clearing space off of their already small cap number.

1.) Get out of this insanely horrible draft.
2.) Ditch Rudy and get a shooter that can actually shoot basketballs.
3.) Get a backup big man that doesn't suck.

Everything else I would like are not really possible, like getting a younger starter level point guard or a good resolution to the Oden/Roy situations.

This "insanely horrible draft" is going to be one of the deeper ones in recent memory, in terms of starters and "non-busts" that are going to come from it. Sure, no sure-fire MVP candidates, but there are at least 10 bigs and 10 guards that can immediately be one of our rotation players, and that's assuming that we don't trade any of our veterans and create holes. Add in another 10-20 with some "upside" and even our 51 pick should be able to get value.

I'd offer them Rudy also; I know that to those of us who watch him every night that his value is zero, but to Kahn it could be more. It really couldn't hurt them to have him there for Rubio, and who knows; Batum, Rudy and Rubio with a new coach and no pressure to win every night; that might be an entertaining, strong-performing bunch!

When you have to convince yourself like that, you know it's a bad idea.
