I'm not a fan of Jameer, but you have to admit he is a much better 3 point shooter than Miller. Tiny sample sizes = weak arguments.

Pah! What's the sample size of Dre playing with Dwight Howard and being totally open practically every time?

One playoff series does not a bum make. Check out Jameer's '09/'10 playoff stats. 19ppg, 4rbs, 5asts, shooting 48% (40% from 3), and 82% from the line. Howard was a manimal this year in the playoffs, albeit getting bounced early. I would blame J. Rich's dropoff in the playoffs more than I would Jameer's for their early exit.

Shit, he's 29 already? I was against it when I thought he was 26! Figures, though, he's been playing like he's on the downslide.

I was a bit surprised that he was that old, too... he turned 23 during his rookie season.

I think Nelson is a significant upgrade over Miller. He's a better rebounder, takes it to the hole and gets fouled, great FT shooter, much better 3 pt shooter, better defender, tougher/fearless, and has experience playing with a great big man, and YOUNGER.

Nelson is a solid B level point guard who has a particular skill that this team is sorely lacking -- the ability to hit an outside shot. So even though I think Miller is a superior point guard in terms of passing and inside game, Nelson is much younger and gives this team a much different look.

On a talent basis I'd call the trade mostly a push, but from a fit perspective and the "it's time to try something new" perspective I like the move if it happens

Bear in mind more moves are going to be needed.

He's definitely a better shooter and younger. As for the rest ... uhhhh? ...

I will be SERIOUSLY PISSED if this is our big draft day splash. I would sooner we did nothing and drafted a Eurostash at 21. Nelson is mediocrity itself.

I'm not disagreeing with that ... it was all of the other stuff Beerboy was claiming that made it sound a little too much like he's Jameer's agent.

I don't get this deal, does it make POR better? Does adding Nelson suddenly make POR a more formidable playoff contender? negligible better? maybe, I guess?

and POR gives ORL thier #21 pick to boot? Sorry, but I think Miller even at 6 years senior to Nelson is a BETTER PLAYER.

So POR balks at taking on Jefferson to get Parker but makes this deal for Nelson?

    Idiotic....

I'd balk at it too. The last thing this team needs is another overpaid, under-performing 2 guard with no contract flexibility in the short term.

Well it is cheaper to get a younger PG than giving up Batum in the deal for Parker.

I'm sure we'd all prefer a bigger upgrade, like Parker or Nash or even Billups, but if one of those doesn't happen I think Nelson would be a good move for the Blazers and would leave them other tradeable pieces (Rudy, Wes, Camby, Nico) to further improve the team.

WWBRD (What would Brandon Roy do?)

    ;)

Plus Jameer can shoot whereas Parker can't.

Would you guys prefer we keep Miller for one year and then be in this same situation at the trade deadline or next off-season (without having Miller's expiring deal to use)?

I've been advocating this trade for a while. I think Nelson fits in better with our current core. Miller is smart basketball IQwise, but I hate his late game iso.
