I know most have jumped off the Roy bandwagon, so I thought I would create an official thread in support of Roy. He's only been with the Blazers for a short period of time, but boy has he given us a lot of good times and memories. Plus we probably would've been swept by the Mavs without his contributions. Feel free to add to this thread.

For a good read on how Roy can still be effective as a starter read this article on Roy

Agreed. I'll believe again when I see evidence he can play at the "Roy" level on a consistent, rather than sporadic, basis.

Right now he kind of reminds me of Tracy McGrady after his injuries. He was/is a shell of his former self with an occasional outburst that reminds you of the player he used to be.

It is nice to see the occasional Roy outburst but he is not someone on whom you can trust.

    Gramps...

The problem with Roy is his max level contract....

As a guy comng off the bench at a median salary, I think most fans would love to have him in that role and at that price level.. But as a max level player strangling your cap space and whining about starting and more touches? Yeah, he has to go...

Whether you believe in him or not, I have a feeling he'll be gone if there's an amnesty clause.

What does Roy having no menisci and his production on the court taking a precipitous dive last year have to do with "belief" or "bandwagons?" It's sad, it's unfortunate, it sucks for the team, but it is what is. So if you want to reminisce about the good times, there's no harm in that, but expecting "that guy" to show up again anything more than sporadically is foolishness.

As for me, I've never been that sentimental so I'm moving on.

Is Danny Ainge officially off the hook for the Telfair deal now?

I honestly think he could be a great 6th man. That jason Terry/ Manu Ginobli type player. Sure he will be severely overpaid, but I still think he can produce for this team. We need bench scoring, there is no question about that, I think if he understands that role he could be great for us. Time will really tell though, he may not even be on the team long enough to truly find out if he can play that role.

A maxed-out Roy on one leg is still >>>>>>>>> Telfair. So, no.

yeah, I'm sure Ainge is pissed that he was forced to trade Ratliff and Telfair for KG, and that he doesn't have Brandon Roy signed on a max deal.

    Exactly.

Brandon Roy knows that he isn't the same player anymore. He said he has to accept it and move on and adapt. Fans have to do that, too. Don't ask for ridiculous expectations from someone who has already given you so much. He gave us good years and memories but you have to appreciate him for who he is. Whether he plays at a high level once again or becomes a 8 ppg player for the rest of his career, show him love and respect. He deserves that much.

All I can say on this........is.......... As one poster pointed out, Roy "intentionally" displayed a lack of athleticism in college so that he could become a more complete basketball player. Since this is obviously reality, Roy should have no problem being the star he is while crawling up and down the basketball court. Guaran-sheed!

...the sooner B.Roy comes to terms with being a 6th man, the better off the Blazers are going to be! A 2nd unit of PG2, Roy, Batum, PF2, Oden could be very lethal!

I don't think he will be as effective coming off the bench as Wes will. Wes will bring more energy.

I think his role will be to spread the floor while LMA, Wallace and Felton attack the basket. Roy has a mid range JUMP shot from anywhere on the floor. As well as a good 3 ball. (And don't bother giving me stats because I don't give a shit about them for players that I watch every game) I know Brandon can shoot.

I am not expecting too much from him. I am expecting him to make others better by merely being on the court. If he trys to dominate the ball then that will be a problem. But if he runs a pick and pop with LMA ocassionaly then I think it will keep the D honest. But no doubt Felton needs to run the offense. If Roys understand this he will be a great asset. I still want to see Wes half the game at SG, but I want them both to be alternating O/D at the end of the game.

But make no mistake he does not need to be the focal point of the offense. After 44 minutes, nate knows who is on. Could be a different guy each night. He does like to expose the mis-match.

Roy will only be gone if there is a hard cap. Won't happen. We will see next year if he can adapt to his new role. We need him too, because we need his shooting ability.

Roy is now about as good as our rookie #51 pick Diebler will be when experienced. I think Roy can still play in the NBA as a low sub for spot minutes. But unlike Diebler, Roy has a leader's attitude that will irritate teammates and coach, because his play won't earn it.

Going to another NBA team will lose his ego baggage of holding too much sway with teammates, coach, and media. They will treat him differently there and painfully force some humility into him. It might work out and he'll last as a Diebler-quality player.

If I'm wrong, he'll rise to become some team's 7th or 8th man, waddling around and helping out. Good at several things, great at none. I hope so, but his baggage makes it impossible to happen here.
