Would you folks be up for switching software from vBulletin to something else? Perhaps Drupal. See http://politicstwo.com for a concept site we did a while back using Drupal. As a message board, vBulletin is about the best we can do. The last time I upgraded the software, it jacked the forum styles and it was a lot of work to get them at least as good as they are now. I can customize software, but I really hate the idea of working on vBulletin; plus if I change things, any future updates we might do (from the vBulletin company) would undo my work. Drupal is forum-like, but more oriented toward "categories" instead of a rigid forum structure. This means a thread in Drupal can appear in NBA, Portland, and Trailblazers. Or a game thread for the Blazers/Mavericks game can be in NBA, Trailblazers, and Mavericks... Drupal has PMs, avatars, smilies, member pages, etc. It's a LOT more customizable in terms of how we can set up the menus, and pages like this one: http://sportstwo.com/content/216-Chicago-Bulls-on-SportsTwo (which was a bunch of work, but easy in Drupal). The thing is, I'm willing to bust my ass to make this place better and keep you all happy. If it's not something you all want any part of, it's not worth it. Obviously. For certain, we've not made any decision about switching software. It's a lot easier to just stick with what we have ;-) However, if there's a lot of real interest, you can convince us.
Its not broke, don't fix it. need tapatalk support too. generally when forums overhaul like this, they lose a bunch of people who don't like the new format (see HOOPSWORLD.com).
I've always been an advocate for tag-based file management. It might lead to more people spreading out over the site.
Wouldn't be prudent. [/GHWB] As a site owner, I can see why you'd be interested. As a mere poster, I don't give a crap about anything but message board functionality, so if vBulletin is the best, then there's no reason at all to change. Home pages, blogs, news feeds, etc.: Not interested. Do not want. barfo
I don't know anything about it. If the posting and thread format is ANYTHING like O-live, then that's the last you'll see of me. What was the name of that site we migrated here from again?
This is the only site I visit, and it is probably because it is so easy to use. I couldn't agree more with ^!
Drupal has some things that comes with it that would help us move the forum forward. Such as Janrain, Disqus, and lastly Mollom. Denny and I have discussed doing something like this for a long time. Recently I have doing research on what forums can do to combat social networking sites. I have yet to talk to Denny about my findings and recommedations because I am not finished with the study. Drupal is nice, it is not vBulletin, however, VB has taken a hit when they lost some people that started Xenforo. We wont do anything that will jeopardize losing most of the loyal posters. We will keep you posted.
dont want anything but forums, other features are a waste of time for me. additionally, i really don't care that people in other forums aren't tagging along on our threads, it is more cozy that way... fuck the laker fans.
i think i speak for everyone here when i say dehagoo, bourdain, and most importante sheballaballa cruz
You all sound like a bunch of old stick-whittlers. This is the way message boards are going. You probably won't even notice much of a difference except for some colors and fonts.
