Neil Paine of Basketball-Reference.com pulls together a monster ranked list of the 593 basketball players that have played at least one NBA game since 2008-2009 as they head into 2012.

Here's where the Portland Trail Blazers check in.

    No. 16 -- LaMarcus Aldridge
    No. 39 -- Greg Oden
    No. 42 -- Gerald Wallace
    No. 44 -- Brandon Roy
    No. 84 -- Raymond Felton
    No. 88 -- Marcus Camby
    No. 100 -- Nicolas Batum
    No. 119 -- Wesley Matthews
    No. 343 -- Chris Johnson
    No. 533 -- Patrick Mills
    No. 533 -- Armon Johnson
    No. 543 -- Earl Barron
    No. 587 -- Luke Babbitt

Some former Blazers: Andre Miller (52), Jeff Pendergraph (95), Rudy Fernandez (250), Shavlik Randolph (253), Joel Przybilla (268) and Dante Cunningham (415).

Not WAY better, but definitely better. Just look at their advanced stats, both regular season and post season for the last couple of years and you will come to the same conclusion. The Miller:Felton trade made Portland younger, not better.

Small sample size for Pendy that was greatly influenced by the final, inconsequential game of the season when he scored 23 PTS (nearly 1/4 of his career total) on 11 (more than 1/4 of his career total - mostly on dunks as GSW weren't even attempting to play defense in that game) of 15 FG. Throw out that one game, and the impact it had on such a small sample size, and he'd be somewhere below Chris Johnson.

We need to sign Shavlik Randolph fast...

True and succinct. We bought 8 years of time, during which we'll get something by trading away Felton.

The current trade will probably be embarrassing in the future because if you add the probabilities of Rudy lasting for years and Petteri lasting for years, you get over 50%.

The Blazers are the only team in the NBA with an entire starting lineup that places in the top 84.

2012 Champions = Portland Trail Blazers

    Checkmate.

    Learn the game, then post.

    Blazers rule.

Where would a healthy Brandon Roy rank?

The list is since 08-09 lol, chill guys.

I just cummed because it was such a good read. I basically rank players in a similar manner, with a few more numbers.

Greg Oden does not belong at 39 if Brandon is ranked so low comparatively. If you base the rankings on how they play when healthy then where is the credit for 3 all star appearances? I hate these kinds of lists because they're always just one guy's opinion and they never make complete sense.

Yeah, I saw Oden that high and knew this list was worthless in terms of oncourt production/value to the team over those years.

And, if we still had Andre Miller, we'd be the only team with all of our starting five in the top 52!

This list was not the guy's opinion. It was a formula factoring in PER, win shares, and +/-.

Still an incomplete list, that doesn't account for time on the actual court.

Like comparing field goal percentage irrespective of shot attempts. Neil has a habit of doing that.

I think this was supposed to be a list of best, not most valuable. IMO, there's a difference, though we're primarily concerned with value.

    44.

Current Roy should be around 200-300.

He's basically a designated hitter who will play spot minutes and alternating games.
