I love Brandon and do not want to see him in another uniform, but meniscus does not grow back. I just hope they allow a player to resign with the team that uses this exception.

The Blazers don't have the guts or the smarts to use it on Brandon Roy

That job was just supplemental income. I did it mainly to be at the arena and experience everything. I started when I was 18 and never got a raise, I was making peanuts I tell ya.

Saw some really cool shit, though. Beating people up from time to time was fun, too.

I think they'd have to, looking at the bottom line Brandon makes 16.4 million in the 2012-2013 season. To take even 75% of that off the salary cap would make us available to sign another piece to team with LaMarcus for a legitimate attempt at a run during his prime (and since I am an eternal optimist also Greg's if he resigns).

I still think this clause is idiotic. If you are paying for the player you should be able to keep him. I think they should knock off 75% of one contract per team PERIOD. But if you have to pay him you should be able to play him.

It'd be stupid if they didn't. He's a max-cat who's a shell. His deterioration was shockingly rapid. He'll understand the move and will still get paid. No harm done IMO.

For those asking, #NBA mediation still ongoing, which means they've been at it for four hours.

Agreed. There's going to be a lot of pressure on the Blazers to waive Roy under this provision. It won't give them any cap space to sign another player, but it will save a bunch of salary and luxury tax. Just watch him sign with the Lakers for exception money as a backup to Kobe and then come back here and kick the Blazers' butts.

If the Blazers plan on keeping Wallace, Felton & Batum, there won't be any cap space available to sign anybody even if the Blazers do waive Roy. It will only save Paul Allen money.

NBA labor talks have been going for 4 1/2 hours today so far, bringing total to 29 hours over 3 days. And they're still at it.

According to StoryTellersContracts.com, Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy is on the books for $15.0 million in 2011-2012, $16.5 million in 2012-2013, $17.9 million in 2013-2014 and $19.3 million in 2014-2015 (only $14.5 million guaranteed, as noted by Storyteller).

If the Blazers used an amnesty clause to receive 75 percent relief on Roy's salary, his cap number for those years would be reduced to roughly: $3.8 million in 2011-2012, $4.1 million in 2012-2013, $4.5 million in 2013-2014 and $3.6 million in 2014-2015.

This would equate to an average of roughly $13.2 million in cap relief per season and at least $50 million of relief over the four seasons together, with the potential for further savings on their luxury tax bill for any year Roy's mini-max contract would have helped push them over the luxury tax line.

While waiving Roy under such a proposal would still cost owner Paul Allen roughly $64 million plus the cost of finding a player to replace him in the rotation, it would provide significant cap relief over the next four seasons.

well it does seem we are getting close to a possible deal, I am happy about that but won't get let out a big GO BLAZERS until we have some confirmation. As far as Roy goes IMO he's a goner if the amnesty proposal is as outlined in recent posts
