Marc Stein: One counter to widespread NBA labor pessimism: Two teams said today they expect strong push toward deal tonight. Cause all parties worn out

    heh

Good idea. Greg Oden and the lockout have one important thing in common. Greg Oden doesn't play, the the lockout prevents other players from playing

If 50/50 is still in play for the owners, there is a chance.

Excellent ? brought up by @NBATVSteve based on '98: which player will look Jordan in eye & say 'if you can't make a profit, sell your team?'

Meeting (finally) under way, about an hour late. Additions to owners' LRC: Paul Allen (yikes) and Michael Jeffrey Jordan (double yikes).

Maybe it's silly of me, but I like that those two are there. They are hardliners, so it's good that they are in the room now. Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer and all that. At some point they are going to have their say anyway....right?

    Chris_Broussard NBA labor update:

Just told by reliable source that "progress is being made." no details given, but I've been assured of progress.

I've learned my lesson from the previous three meetings. I refuse to get my hopes up until it's official.

I'm so annoyed at this lockout that I can't enjoy this LSU/Bama game. Oh well Time for the ducks.

MrMichaelLee: Just asked someone with knowledge of NBA labor negotiations if sides were almost home on a deal. Response: "Very close"

Chris Broussard: Source reiterates that labor Meeting is going very well

    ......

You have to believe the players know they have no leverage at this point

NBA talks are over for the night. "No deal," a source says.

Separate press conferences. No deal, and there wasn't going to be one tonight. My semi-informed guess: Muted progress. Not enough.

Stern: Cohen suggested 49-51 BRI band for BRI ... mini mid-level $2.5M for 2-year deal for tax payers ... recommended no s&t for tax payers

Stern: We accepted the first five (suggested) and adopted as our proposal. We told the players we would put those in writing ...

    Woah

If players don't accept current 49-51 band proposal, the owners will draw up a new proposal Wednesday night only offering 47% and a flex cap
