Tlong, hopefully you know I like you. This is just a question. Is it fair that you admittedly claim you don't have knowledge on what happen, then say we should get a bowl ban? I've said in the past I will support minor sanctions because, from all I've read, it's a gray area that does to be something that Oregon pushed. What makes me lean towards Oregon more is not my allegiance, it's that Lyles has lied, changed his story and not a single player or players family member (one of the players even left Oregon due to distance/playing time/etc - so he should not hesitate to talk) have backed Lyles story.
I claim I don't have knowledge as to what Oregon's punishment will be. I HAVE read the same reports that most others have. I think it's abundantly clear Kelly and the Ducks paid Lyles to steer recruits toward Oregon. What else was the $25K for?
The reason I say it's a gray area and was just bad business with a bad recruiter (and it's on Oregon to work with more reputable people) is that Lyles set his price - Kelly simply asked for the best package. Oregon was not the only school to pay Lyles and wasn't even the school that paid him the most. Lyles worked for and accompanied student/athletes/family to other schools in the same way he did for Oregon. Athletes, including a former UO athlete and multiple family members who worked with Lyles said there was no favoritism or pressure. Some people want heads to roll, but what is it based on? Assumptions of what happen? Kelly handled everything through the AD only asked for the best package. Some people seem to think the handwritten notes are some kind of smoking gun - but what rules does this violate? Assisting with information for official visits? I don't see it. But, I'll live and accept the NCAA ruling - good or bad.
I am aware of Lyles accompanying recruits to Cal, LSU & USC, but am pretty sure he hasn't been to Oregon in that capacity. further, through most of the period Lyles was contracted by Oregon, verbal communication constituted an acceptable form of recruiting info... which is why all the phone records have been submitted. When the rules changed during this period he couldn't come up with the proper documentation and so his contract wasn't renewed. Now he's baking bread for a grocery store. STOMP
