At least there is enough time to come up with a buyer.

What are the chances of the team being bought and moved? I don't want a SonicsGate Part II!

Can't stand Brian Berger as a person, but he does have connections.

Neither team is a contender, and at least in the case of the Blazers he has lost interest in investing in the team. Add in his questionable health, and it really isn't a surprise.

He has to sell both teams in order to replace Stern when he retires.

Sacrificing our team is the only way to get Stern to retire. But look on the bright side. Maybe Stern will come here to be the owner.

I'm sick of Paul Allen and his mercurial nature. I've read the agreement between the City of PDX and the Blazers. They're not going anywhere until at least 2027. If he sells, I'll probably be happy (depending on the buyer and the new CBA).

Would you rather have a nonmercurial owner who won't spend, won't make trades, and sits there like a stationary, potted plant?

Allen wants to buy a new franchise (like the Hornets) and bring them to Seattle. He has to sell the Blazers first, as the NBA won't let anyone own two franchises.

We should merge this to the 'prepare for a slow agonizing death' thread.

The new CBA is a soft-cap and without Paul Allen we're going to be in purgatory for years.

Little to less than none. The lease is pretty ironclad. I think, unlike Seattle, Stern would put his foot down on this franchise moving because of the fan support. We sell out most every game.

Haha. This quote is hilarious because in the past you have said the man literally has no connections when arguing with me about something with the team

If Paul selling the team is done in order to "save" (or bring, more accurately) the Sonics back to Seattle, I hope Portland gets a better owner than him.

Also, I doubt that he's selling the two teams to bring an NBA team to Seattle. Seattle likes the Seahawks far more than they did/do the Sonics (imho).

In the new CBA spending isn't going to be so easy ... as for the other bits, why is it mutually exclusive to have a competent owner who will make trades?

I might have. When it comes to basketball moves or trade type inside info, he doesn't. On the business side of things in the business world I'll have to admit he does.
