Does anyone think one of the 5 or so teams who can might pony up a big offer that POR might not match? How high do you think POR would go to match if there was a big offer?
No, I don't think any team will offer more then we'd be willing to match. Hell we had numerous fans pissed at management for not offering Oden a MAX contract right before the lockout! Yes I know management isn't as fickle as many of our fans, but still I don't think another franchise has any similar level of attachment to Oden. Most teams are very weary of a player who hasn't played basketball since 2009, who will play at the earliest sometime in 2012, and who has only played in 1 of 4 games. Those teams are not going to offer a contract too much higher than the MLE and we would match a contract in that price range.
Im thinking a team with capspace is going to offer him something like 3 to 4 years at 10 mill per year with the sole hope that we match then Waive Roy to save money and they can do the Bidding thing and then pick Roy up for 5 mill a year.

I don't know about that. There is only two weeks or so of the FA period this year, and tying up $10 million in cap space until the Blazers make their decision seems risky when there are able-bodied FAs out there to spend money on next week.
Possibly. The cap space is only tied up for 3 days so if the top free agents are already gone and a team isn't making any other immediate moves they may not mind.
On a yearly basis, and with hardly any time to decide for teams, I'm guessing most teams won't go over the MLE for him, and for a short period of time. I'm not sure why Oden would sign anything that isn't at least $25 million in total, though, and even that over 5 years would be a bad deal, IMO.
Are you sure? I thought that changed with the new "Greg Oden" rule. (And no, I'm not making that up.)
My assumption is that Oden's contract was signed under the old CBA and would go by its RFA rules, including QO amount. I could be wrong, I'm not a lawyer, nor have I read the new CBA's text to see if it overrides the old one in this case. Consider all the old contracts, like LeBron's or LMA's are still in force, no?
If the QO is $8.7M, then Oden would sign it if teams don't offer more. He risks a long term guarantee, but he becomes a UFA. If he shows promise and can appear to be overcoming his injuries, he could get a bigger deal next year as a FA.
Yes the new qualifying offer amounts will start in the 2012-13 offseason. It is named the Greg Oden rule because it will be applied to future players who perform like Oden, even though it doesn't apply to Oden himself.
Khan has shown that he is willing to make the same mistake multiple times. Would not surprise me if they made a sizable offer. I think the new CBA lets them play 3 overpaid centers and 3 point guards at the same time.
I doubt it and thinks he gets more, with new CBA rules for stretching out cap hits (double the years) on contracts if you waive that player, that's a pretty cheap gamble, as a Blazer fan I would definitely take the risk and offer him that and I am not even all that hopeful he can stay healthy
