Btw, Houston has a very good shot at Nene. They are really high on him, apparently. This could make Chuck Hayes more available to the Blazers (RFA).
The Blazers traded Bowie for Buck Williams and it worked out pretty well. Nene is no Buck, but would take his production over what we have been getting from Greg. Would send Camby to Denver if we were to make a deal. Like our core and would rather not disrupt it.
According to Ken Berger, he's not interested in Portland. I mean, why would he be? The only offer we will have is an MLE that will push him into a role player type role. For a guy that is used to starting, this is a very unattractive offer. Likewise, to other free agents, the Blazers appear to have a shaky line-up. Because of this, they won't find it in their best interest to play for a team that doesn't guarantee them a specific role. They don't want to be the player that gets tossed around when Oden comes back or play behind Aldridge, Mathews, and Felton. It's always an "IF" with the Blazers; nothing is secure. That's not a good selling point to a customer. And so, that's the dilemma of cutting Roy....While you'll have more money, free agents are reluctant to join because of the shaky line-up. And despite Roy's injuries, he still is the face of the franchise and if you cut off the face (no GM too), you'll become a less attractive destination especially for those key guys who don't mind taking a secondary role.
They could get a better deal than that since our draft picks are usually so-so. I bet a Batum & Camby package could get it done.

There's something else to consider. During the CBA negotiations, I think the agents we're pretty vocal about sticking it to the 9 or 10 owners who drew the hard-line on a 47-53 BRI split. They could potentially steer their clients away from those team or at least exact a heavy toll ... Allen was reportedly one of those hardliners
If there was any chance of getting Nene, I would be all for it. We lack muscle down low. We don't need numbers, but someone that can take the other centers and inside guys out of their comfort zone. I don't see how we could pull it off, but I would love to see what's on the table.
which agent was that again? id like to find out so i can look at his client roster and cross some names off our list. and also, i bet players would love to sign with him, considering he is implying that he will not have the best interest of his players at heart, but instead some silly grudge possibly limiting his players earning potential
Oh for fuck's sake. All I was saying is that some of the agents made statements that they would take it out of the hardliner's hide, by either gouging those owners if they wanted their client(s) or steering their client(s) away from those teams altogether. Maybe they'll be able to maybe they won't. I'm just saying it's something to keep an eye on.

We have heard this kind of tough talk from agents for decades. They said the same fucking thing after the last CBA - you know, the one where the players got a super-sweet deal. And when a player is traded. And when a player isn't traded. And when the agent gets a parking ticket. This is what agents do. Whine and moan and complain and threaten. I think 90% of it complete utter horseshit. The majority of NBA free agents work really, really hard to get the biggest guaranteed contract they can find. Money talks and bullshit walks in the majority of free agent signings. Can agents make a difference if they hold a grudge? Of course they can and do. But, those agents that push this too much risk pissing off their clients or worse. Technically, "punishing" a hardline owner would be a breach of duty by the agent that could get them sued by players. Overall, I think the "hardliner" teams will do just fine overall under the new CBA.
