It's the other way around. Be wary of players who put up big stats on BAD teams. It's easy to get stats during garbage time. But delivering numbers to help win big game after big game? That is what's impressive. Furthermore, Boston is a good team BECAUSE of Rondo. Without him, they'd be pedestrian.

Well duh, if you have no one to pass to, your numbers will go down. But Rondo will have two huge targets in Oden and Aldridge so I don't understand why we're wondering how Rondo would be if our best player were Harvey Grant. That's not the case.

We don't need Batum to break out. We have Gerald Wallace who is worlds better.

By the way, the playoff series I which Rondo nearly averaged a triple double? KG was hurt and did not play. Rondo stepped up.

Wow, it was late when I typed that. He didn't say that at all. He said be wary of players that put up good stats on a bad team. Rondo puts up good stats on a good team, but I think they would go down a bit without the three HOFers he is playing with. NIc is still the better overall player, IMO

ERik, Rondo hasn't led his team to the finals ever. Those 3 HOFers have. NO one actively shops a guy like that

Rondo is the best player on that team, and has been for the last two years. He is one of the main reasons why LBJ is no longer in Cleveland.

I'd push for a Wallace/Felton/change deal first, which maybe they go for? The Celtics need an infusion of energy and they would probably like the shooting upgrade at the point. But if it comes down to Batum, that's a deal you have to make imo. Point guards and centers are the toughest positions to upgrade, and Rondo is a top 5 point with a long career in front of him. If you really believe Batum can become our 2nd All Star, that all good teams have, then I guess you pass. I just don't see it.

No frikkin way Rondo is a top 5 point guard! Dude can't shoot! Point guard is the most overrated position on the court anyway. Neither team in the NBA Finals last year had a decent PG.

this thread is just as productive as "Would you give up Elliot Williams for Dwight Howard?" would be.

I like how a rumor of the Celtics using Rondo to try to get Chris Paul has turned into Danny Ainge desperately trying to get rid of him.

Except Batum is as valuable as Rondo

Rondo can't shoot a jumper to save his life, and his team is actively shopping him for a reason

Your opinion officially means nothing to me, and for good reason.

Care to respond from a Celts homer POV about what Haberstroh said?

His stats aren't that good, and being surrounded by 3 future HOFers should inflate them. Which ever team ends up with him will get a good PG, but not someone who can carry a team by himself.

I think you're right in a sense. Positions aren't really defined like they were. Low post presence and playmakers are the two essentials. Rondo is a first rate playmaker. I don't think it's within Batum to get there. And we really need a first rate perimeter playmaker.

It's more a case of "Danny Ainge trashing Rondo to the media every chance he gets" turns into "Rondo finally getting pissed off with that".

So Jason Kidd won't be going in the hall of fame? That's a bit of a surprise. And I guess Miami didn't need a PG because they had "the Big Three". Wait, remind me, Miami did win, right? Because you don't need a PG if you have THE BIG THREE...
