I had limited interaction with any of the athletes in my four years at Northwestern (other than in pickup basketball games). I remember picking up my test booklet from a stack in a political science class or something (one where there were a couple of hundred students; pretty rare at NU) and seeing the name of a guy on the basketball team on a booklet. He got a D. Maybe he wasn't a good enough player for a tutor I think porkchop is right: the special skill of playing a sport gives average students a chance to get in that they otherwise would not have, but it doesn't mean that they can't cut it if/when they get in. Chip Kelly doing an in-home with 5* star Kyle Murphy right now. Coach John Neal visited Shaq Thompson today and Shaq had this to say, "It went really well. I saw him at my school today and after he went and talked with my mom. I like coach Neal, he's a straight shooter." And as I said already Coach Azz is scheduled to do an in-home visit with Arik later this week.
Coach Gary Campbell visiting 4* star Texas WR commit Thomas Johnson today. Apparently he has been blowing up Scott Frost's phone but no word of a decommitment yet. Given the fact that in addition to 5* WR Cayleb Jones and 2 other 4* stars committing to Texas, and that he is the one initiating contact, it seems to me that Johnson might be looking elsewhere. Also he is a former teammate of Anthony Wallace.
Couple of huge developments as of late. Gary Campbell met with D.J. Foster and since Brown committed to the Beavers, we are in need of a 2nd RB from this class, and it has been confirmed that Campbell let Foster know he has the option to play either RB or WR here. Also this is the big development, 5* RB and Texas A&M commit Trey Williams has said he wants to visit Oregon. He has apparently been very displeased with the firing of Mike Sherman and might look elsewhere.
Trey Williams says he will visit & we are actively recruiting him as at least one of our coaches was scouting him today http://www.ihigh.com/northhouston/article_95707.html STOMP
rivals rates Trey Williams as the #13 overall prospect STOMP
*4 DT Faith Ekakitie per rivals... "So here I am, thinking of different ways to eliminate a couple of these schools after I had taken my fifth official visit to Oregon," he continued. "The visit to Oregon definitely had its effects on me, and at one point I thought that there may actually be a strong possibility of me committing there. The players and atmosphere really had me captivated. However, while I was on my visit to Oregon, Coach Azz had let me know there was only one spot left on the d-line in regards to scholarships. Basically, if I wanted the spot, it was all mine, otherwise if someone else committed first, they would have to take that prospects commitment. And of course the worst happened after about a week and I got a call saying that the spot was no longer available. Buh Bye Oregon." Faith visited Nov 18th... what changed? STOMP
Some more big news. 4* star athlete de-committed from USC today, and now says he's down to two schools Washington and Oregon.
Who? Jabari Ruffin? He committed in march and was recruited by both Oregon and UW. Jaydon Mickens committed in October and visited UW but ESPN has Oregon not offering... Ruffin is a big guy and looks like he's a LB candidate for USC. Interesting. Ed O.
You guys are funny. I believe he's referring to Mickens. He's a 5'9/178# RB/WR who is described as a good all around athlete with great speed but needs to bulk and gain strength if he wants to beat jams at the next level. Described as perfect for slot and dangerous in open field. As far as I can tell, UW has offered and UO has not.
It's Jaydon Mickens, wow can't believe I left his name off that post last night. With USC only being allowed to take on 15 PSA's this year, they'll be turning a lot of players away as they have to decide which ones they absolutely need to take.
