All we have to offer is the mini mid-level and the veteran's minimum right? There are tons of team with money to spend this year which moves us down the list of potential suitors, for all but the journeymen type players that are looking for work.
Trade what though? They're in a weird spot with their roster. They don't have a lot of young assets or picks that they appear willing to part with and they don't appear to be in a mood to unload salary for a rebuild. This looks like a "stand pat" roster to me this year.
Yeah this is one year I think the Blazer need a trade the least out of the last decade. Often we've had log-jams with two of our best players at one position, or needing to add a veteran piece to content or part with veteran piece to get young and rebuild. But now we just need a better idea of what we got, and our main 8 rotational pieces are well balanced position wise. We don't need a trade. The trader Bob side of me always wants to see us wheeling and dealing for fun but unless some team offers us an obvious deal I'm fine just riding this gloomy train of our current roster as is for the season.
It's not all "gloom" it's just got a lot of question marks ... and that's tough when you are coming off of a lockout and going into a compressed schedule -- this team isn't going to have much margin of error for "figuring it out," but they've got professionals with experience in LMA, Wallace, Camby, Felton ... and even Roy. This could still be a playoff team ...
I don't see anything out there that I really think the Blazers should be jumping on. All the FAs are crap, and the few better-than-mediocre ones are way out of our pricerange (and will very soon be albatrosses round their new teams' necks). I don't get the Landry love - he was awful for Sacramento, and he's no defender at all - I'd rather give his minutes to Gerald Wallace, who is probably taller and a better rebounder (certainly than the Sacramento Landry). Besides, I firmly believe we'll be getting Freeland next season, so why commit to someone who'll scare him off? All I want is a Przybilla/Pendergraph 13th man in case of injury. (And that's with Chris Johnson as the 12th man. Or maybe Chris Johnson as 11th man, Earl Barron as 12th.) If we go hog wild we'll never get to see much of Elliot Williams and/or Nolan Smith. Big minutes for: Aldridge, Batum, Wallace, Matthews, Felton (in fact, if I'm in charge, that's my starting lineup). Reserve minutes for: Roy, Camby, Johnson and possibly Nolan Smith/Williams or if they can't hack it, some Anthony Johnson type. Spot minutes in a blowout for the Nevada Boys and Greg at first (i.e., if/when he comes back), and if he can last, he moves up to reserve minutes.
