Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML Well legally it is a conflict of interest for the nba to own an nba team. Doesn't matter who they deal to. I think this is why Paul is pissed. Basically this means the nba can't deal him this season. He will have to wait until this summer to leave town. Also means he can't go anywhere he wants. This is what Orlando should do too. No contender will have enough to get them.
Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML It sucks for New Orleans. Does this mean they can't trade Paul at all? Because they obviously can't turn round and trade him to the Celtics, or the Lakers really would have a legal case. Are they only allowed to trade him to a small market team? Or does this just have to wait until somebody buys the Hornets?
Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML "The owners half-pushed this through, and Stern took it the rest of the way," a league source involved in nixed trade told Y! Sports." -Woj
Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML Well legally it is a conflict of interest. Legal issues any way around it. Just like Paul Allen can't own two teams. Basically, even if the nba tries to make a good decision; there will always be a conflict because of their association. Only until no has an independent owner, they are basically fucked.
Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML I agree! I'm not showing up to training camp either! Who's with me?
Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML New Orleans got 5 players in the deal, including 27 year old Kevin Martin and two draft picks.
Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML WojYahooNBA "League source on killed deal: "...(Stern) wasn't going to let Chris Paul dictate where he wanted to go."
Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML They're in re-build mode if/when they deal CP3. Every player they got was either in their 30's or pushing 30. Demps is a fool for not getting a young building block.
Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML 27 year old Kevin Martin isn't pushing 30. Paul was born in May 1985, Martin in February of 1983. Martin also was 9th in the league in scoring. This looks like an ego thing with Stern not wanting Paul to go where he wants to go. Players can't dictate where they want to play! Otherwise, it's a lot better deal than the one the Lakers made to get Gasol in the first place.
the ironic thing is that I think this is a decent haul for NOH, but that it would be the catalyst for a ripoff of ORL for Howard (bynum + trash?) that the league would have no recourse to block. Hence, putting the kibosh on this pretty fair deal. I think Stern explains to Buss that he can have one or the other, but not both, and he'll get some kind of handshake bennie for later.
Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML Of course you know that the real force behind the deal being cancelled was the Kardashians.
Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML He got players that can play now. Scola, Odom, KMart is a damn good haul for a guy that would leave next year anyway. If he doesnt want those guys, he could easily move them to other teams individually for assets
