All three parties did not agree. One of the parties is the NBA, which is collectively owned and run by 30 owners. Obviously a majority of those owners did not feel that this move was in the best interest of the league, or they would not have vetoed it.
I think that deal may have made LA worse. Their front court length has been so difficult to matchup with the last 4 years and they would've lost that advantage. However Paul was the best player in the deal so usually if you end up with the best player you don't lose out in a trade. But.... the giant elephant in the room is what if the Paul deal was only half of their moves... if they had a deal setup to land Howard or another elite big man then they would've formed a superteam possibly better then the Heat. So yes the Paul deal may have been a slight immediate downgrade on its own, but it put them in a spot to be one move from forming the biggest superteam in sports. If Chandler signs in NY and uses their cap space, CP3 could end up without any great free agent options. Its not necessarily guaranteed that he bolts NO. NO could add a free agent or two, I could see him staying put and pocketing the extra $25 million they can offer over anyone else. In that scenario the Hornets may have been benefited greatly from their owners nixing this deal.
The league is the key phrase there. It made A LOT of sense for the hornets. which is the team making the trade. gilbert is butthurt because he lost lebron and now he would lose some of his lux tax money. I'm not surprised he is the most vocal.
The breackdown was the one owner who owns the Hornets and nixed the deal. This routinely happens with almost finalized trades in the NBA.
the hornets have had 7 years to convince cp3 NO is his home. He doesnt want to stay because they suck. my bad- 6 years.
Wait a minute. They have made the playoffs 5 of those 6 years. They had a stacked team with chandler, west and Paul. And they did take lakers to 6 games, who were the defending champs. I would hardly say they sucked.
Welcome to the new NBA guys! YAYYYYYY http://twitter.com/#!/Chris_Broussard/status/145028550175629312 that's chris broussard folks. not stephen a smith. broussard is legit.
stacked? more like overachievers. chandler is good, i'll give you that. but his offense consists of alley-oops.
I think he wants to leave NO for LA or NY because they are bigger cities, not because they've had better rosters recently. Pauls preferred destination of all is supposedly the Knicks and they have sucked much more then the Hornets the last 6 years!
That's the advantage bigger markets have. Smaller markets don't have that luxury, unless if you have a guy that only cares about playing ball. Such as Aldridge. He just wants to play ball, doesn't care about the big city lights.
The person I feel the worst for by far? Monty Williams Great guy and does not deserve any of this mess.
He will be fine. He is getting paid and when his contract is up he can always come back to Portland. Let him learn his trade and be ready to take over in a few years.
Yeah I basically agree. But then its stupid for you to blame the Hornets for being in a position where Paul doesn't want to sign long term. You said "He doesnt want to stay because they suck." while I think he doesn't want to stay mostly because he thinks the city sucks.
The NBA is taking back the League from this era of superstar buddies who collude years before they're free-agents to eventually join up. Viva La Stern!
So true. I fucking love this. Egomaniac players arguing with rich owners. David Stern getting involved. D12 getting scared off of the Lakers. Tweets. E-mails. It's incredibly fascinating. It's like toddlers with billions of dollars not getting along in the sandbox.
I say that the NBA should approve the Paul-to-the-Lakers trade the second that Howard is traded to NJ.
Do you honestly care if they team up on the Nets? Would you complain if Derrick Rose and Blake Griffin demanded to be traded to the Bucks?
I think you're being intentionally obtuse. If Lopez+2 1sts is even remotely doable, you don't think Bynum and taking a bad contract would be? Especially since it's been reported that Buss has been trying to do that for about 3 days now?
