My only fear is that this becomes Miles II. B Roy is a competitive guy. If he has anything left, I think he would try again in the future. If the new CBA does not have a provision to stop what happened with Miles, we should amnesty Roy to make sure he never comes back on our books.
Holding on to the amnesty is worth more than getting a little MLE bump. The Blazers will have some nice cap room next summer with Roy, Felton, Camby and possibly Wallace all coming off the books. Unfortuntaly it's the worst FA market I've ever seen.
I know this might sound a little bit cynical, but it may be that Roy wants to be amnestied and is using the medical retirement (and the threat of coming back ala Darius Miles) as leverage.
More than likely that would have been next year, but same result. Except for the fact that Brandon would not have had to rip in out of Larry's hands. He would have gladly passed it to him.
I was so lucky to have been there for that. Got tickets in section 304 (the madhouse), and had a blast once the 4th quarter started. As Roy caught the pass for the baseline shot (the foot on the line two near the end), I shouted, "Take us home, Brandon!" And he did. Retire #7 on the 26th. I'm down with that.
On that decision, I am torn. IMO, Peyton is the reason Indianapolis still has football. I do not think the city would have been as cooperative with the building of Lucas Oil Stadium if not for what he has done for the team. It is going to be a bad decision if we trade Luck, but as a fan ever since the team moved to Indy I cannot fathom watching Manning play for another team.
Entirely plausible. It is wierd that the team was talking about starting him recently and he played in charity events, yet he thinks retirement is the best option.
I agree. Roy is much more well grounded and better person then Miles could ever be. Roy wouldnt do this out of spite. He's doing it because its the best thing for him and his family long term. I'm surprised at how little faith some of you have in B.Roy as a person. He's a class act on and off court.
Go back and read the articles - there was never a quote from a doctor. They were about feelings. That's what I thought was weird at the time.
It's plausible if he was afraid of being cut (Amnesty) but it makes no sense if he wants to be let go.
Above all though is he not a competitor? I would think it is going to be tough for him to be watching basketball if there is even just one game left in him.
He's retiring out of pride?!? Just like that? We won't ever get to see him play again... ever?!? This is just so sad but a big part of me is relieved I'll never see him play in another teams' jersey. He's the anti-TMac. I really hope they find a way to keep him on staff with the Blazers. He's a class act on and off the court and he's still got the heart of a champion. That Game 4 comeback was so exciting at the time but now it's even more meaningful for me. This is one of the last memories we'll all have of him as a player and he is definitely going out on a high note. Best wishes to Brandon and his family and I really hope we see him on the sidelines or in the broadcasting booth for many years to come.

You have to take your hat off to Roy, he is going out like the class act he is. Loyal to the team from day one. He needs some love from the team , a position on the bench. The players in the league like and respect him and would listen to him. Lets keep him a Blazer.
