Do you really believe that? Really? The only other time in the history of sports that I remember something like that happening was when Bob Whitsitt asked Shawn Kemp to give up some of his contract. Players don't just forgo money or security. It's just not done. I don't care who they are. Why would Oden, who hasn't had a healthy season yet, give up financial security?

I hope I am wrong, but I doubt it. All of this misplaced anger is based on expectations placed on Oden by some posters. I'll make another prediction. When Oden leaves, it will be blamed on "negative" posters who drove poor Greg out of PDX.

I find it funny that you label people seeing this as a negative as haters. Just last week I read many posters who said Greg would get some large FA offers. Now, he can't even get a MLE, if that's the take, YET THE ACE IN THE HOLE is that the Blazers can offer the max? It' silly.

It's amazing how many posters read things that just aren't there. I've read one poster who thinks what you interpreted, and I don't think their opinion is 'hating' on Oden.

I don't think there are too many people who qualify for both "camps" I think you might be over-generalizing a bit here.

So do you think Greg regrets signing a one year deal? Or was this his only option?

I don't think he regrets it. The Blazers' alternative would have been to cut him loose and make him UFA. That he signed, and it seems amicable, says quite a bit about his character. He didn't screw over the team after the team held up its end of the bargain. He did good by the fans - as best he could.

Well, my question is whether he knew this was going to happen and signed the 1 year offer anyway, or was this setback news to even Oden?

I have a feeling it was news to oden. From the pictures and comments he looked in good spirits. He was talking about proving his worth.

The Blazers are the side paying for nothing on the court. Oden is still getting paid for not playing.

That's my feeling, and that's exactly why I thought this was a dumb move by Oden. It wasn't even a couple days after he signed that one year deal that he's injured and possibly out for the season. What team is going to open the checkbook for a guy who hasn't played in three seasons (after this one ends)? The guy doesn't have a good track record. I bet he's already regretting the move.

we'd have him locked up for 6 years and could amnesty him whenever we want. Still a valid move.

A couple of days after he signed? Today was the first day to sign contracts.

I thought only deals signed prior to the new CBA were eligible for amnesty. Not so?
