repealing child labor laws so as to have poor children displacing Janitors is not an idea that is appealing towards the moderates of this country.... sorry. Newt has never been anything close to a consensus builder. Historically he is 180 degrees from a politician that has brought folks together. If you're doing digging on him as you claim, I don't know how one can miss what a vapid fraud this guy has been compared to what he's espoused. STOMP
I claim ignorance in that I was overseas/not connected to the world for most of Clinton's term, but wasn't Newt the Speaker of the House who worked with Clinton to get all of Clinton's policy passed?
I wasn't able to catch tonight's Iowa Debate, but ABC appears to be saying that Gingrich won it. Did anyone here watch it?
I watched it. I didn't think Newt was a run away with the debate, but the consensus that although he just didn't want to lose ground as the front runner, he actually gained ground. Guess Romney doesn't have much charisma, but I liked him more than Newt.
What the country needs at this time is someone who can inspire people of both parties and the masses. Newt isn't it, Obama isn't it, Romney isn't it, and Hillary isn't it. I don't see anyone out there, and it's actually rare that a JFK or Reagan or FDR comes along.
I thought Rudy might be the guy, but he was a terrible campaigner. His successor, Bloomberg, appears quite competent, but I don't see him as making anyone want to salute when he enters the room.
I think they're setting themselves up for 2016, by both allowing Obama to win AND (in their eyes) allowing him to mess things up more. Don't know who the Democrats would run in 2016. It's doubtful it'd be Biden, and I doubt it'd be Clinton. Is there a young up and coming Democrat who can make a name for themselves? Maybe at the 2012 convention? There might be one for the RNC in 2012.
I certainly hope not. At the rate this country is going, by 2015 we may very well already be China II.
I agree with Denny. All I see out there are 'politics as usual' candidates and then there's Obama. So I see no hope for change.
The republican should run away with this election. Obama's prize accomplishment is unpopular and very expensive. The debt he's run up has to be paid by someone, and that someone is the voter. If unemployment does fall to 8% by election time as he claims, what does that say about his policies that failed and the republicans blocking them and the success after that? Gitmo's open, the war escalated in Afghanistan, new war in Libya. Many millions of homes foreclosed upon while the banks bought other banks with taxpayer bailout money. Rioting and unrest in the streets, reminiscent of the 1960s. Peace and prosperity? All the republican has to do is make the case.
