If he clears waivers, yes. The fact that he said he is planning on retiring to ensure he can walk later in life, I'm not too worried about it.

It seems pretty sudden for him to go from potentially starting to be retiring.

I would not be shocked if he suddenly is able to play again. Maybe for the Heat or the Lakers later this year.

    Guess we'll wait and see.

I wonder if any players will be waived. I think Armon Johnson is a prime candidate.

I would venture a guess the 48 hour wait is waiting word on DPE.

He felt good, a doctor told him it was a poor idea to continue on.

    ...and, so what?

He's done with this team one way or another. There's no way we can afford to keep a max level player with his level of production anyways.

He can't hurt our capspace if he decides to sign somewhere else. (If we amnesty him)

Haha, just a wee bit far fetched.

Roy has little more character than that.

We can send out a threatening memo again.

He can hurt our team, though, if he's playing for another team... and the team presumably won't be able to get insurance to pay for his salary (as it would have had he retired without the team waiving him), so the argument that the team "can't afford to keep a max level player" like Roy doesn't hold water.

I'd rather not amnesty him and keep the cap space than sign Crawford.

Roy gave no significant notice to the team about his retirement.

Doesn't it seem like only a guy with something less than impeccably high character would do that?

Jason Quick said (via BFT) that the Blazers are active and trying to be creative.

He seems to think they are trying to make room for both Crawford and Landry.

He can play for another team either way. He "medically retires" and then pulls a Miles, or we use amnesty and he tries to play. Unless you're saying just keep him around all together, and not have him retire either.

It's his salary for one year, and it won't hurt our salary cap (which is what matters most).

You could wait for his medical retirement to pass, but by that time, you might lose out on several other options.

I'm surprised they didn't do anything about that dumbass rule in the new CBA. A league appointed doctor can deem a guy as medically unfit to play, but he plays 18 games, and the team that had him retire initially gets fucked.

    Makes no sense.

So our front office thinks adding Crawford and Landry is being creative?

I correlate Seahawks success to Paul Allen being interested in exploring options for the Blazers. Seahawks need to keep on winning.

To make any kind of room with this cap you have to. But I agree, I wish they'd aim higher in trades and not the limited room we have in free-agency.
