I think its about $4 million for 2 years. I'd make a strong pitch to Reggie Evans. We need another PF/C on this roster. Troy Murphy would be even better but I assume he gets more money. Any other serviceable bigs out there?
Would Evans even accept that? He's actually not that bad, IMO. He's got that mean streak in him like the Vanilla Gorilla.
Evans got 11.5 boards last season in 26 minutes a game. That's pretty sexy. And the dude is strong. Would he go for BAE though?
The BAE is only available to non-tax paying teams. It starts at $1.9M and can be for a max of 2 years. I guess we're assuming that the Blazers have decided to amnesty Roy to sign Crawford rather than having been granted a disabled player exception? That's probably the case, but there's been no confirmation either way.
Unless something changed in the new CBA, the DPE can be for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 5. https://webfiles.uci.edu/lcoon/cbafaq/salarycap.htm#Q19
it did change in the new CBA, to just a one year deal. To actually reflect what it is intended to be, anm exception to actually cover for an injured guy for that year, as opposed to a way to add another MLE.
Can Evans play defense? I know he can board and I know he can't shoot. But can he play D? If he can't then maybe we should just go with CJ. He at least can block shots. If Evans can play D then I say he would be a good option. Murphy I would have taken before we signed Thomas, but now I would choose Evans and let Babbit get in a couple of games to see if he has gotten stronger. I like the "stretch 4" concept.
Yi, Murphy, jason Smith, Fesenko, Dante Cunningham. Maybe hang on to it, and add Kenyon Martin in March?
Yeah, I just checked that and you're right. But Sports Illustrated is reporting that Crawford is signing a one-year deal, so it could still be the DPE that the Blazers are using. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/sam_amick/12/15/jamal.crawford/index.html?sct=nba_t2_a3
