This is a list of all the players we lose due to them all graduating and moving on. David Paulson Lavasier Tuinei Mark Asper Darrion Weems Nick Musgrove TE Terrell Turner Brandon Hanna Dewitt Stuckey Josh Kaddu Blake Thompson Eddie Pleasant Anthony Gildon Players that may leave for draft. LaMichael James(likely) Kenjon Barner(doubtful) Dion Jordon(doubtful) Carson York(doubtful)
Ugh... those are some big names on the defense, and two more of our most reliable receivers. I have a feeling we will be going through a rebuilding year next season. Losing Kaddu, Turner, Pleasant, and Stuckey will really hurt I think. We have receivers to fill the gaps with Tuinei and Paulson, but I think Paulson will be missed, much like Maehl was missed this season.
Disagree. This was our rebuilding year with a retooled OL and DL. Everywhere we lose a valuable SR, we have experienced players waiting to step in. At LB we have Alonso, Lokombo and Clay returning. They are huge and I believe will be some of the best LB's in the Pac. Anthony Wallace is highly touted too. Our secondary will be strong. At WR we have Blackmon, Cantu, Dungy, Hawkins, Huff, Sumler, DAT, and others returning. I expect Vaughn to have a breakout SR year - rated #1 JC WR in the nation and a big, strong kid. Our OL is going to be very, very good and we have depth to replace Asper and Weems. And, next year may be the first I can recall where there aren't some serious questions/concerns with the DL. Our defense is going to be solid next year. Our offense, under the leadership of Thomas, behind a physical and experienced OL, with Barner, DAT, Forde, Carson, and crew...given our extremely weak OOC -- we have an opportunity to run the season, if we can take care of business vs USC.
I think we are also forgetting about Colt too, who is very effective if they "EVER" throw him the ball! Further we've recruited 2 TE's over 6"6 and a receiver who's 6'5... Thomas will have trees out there to throw to! IF you just had Pharoah, Colt line up as TE's with DAT and Barner in the backfield with DT in the pocket... you're gonna have a hell of a hard time putting a helmet on all that talent, and trying to outjump 6'6 guys is going to be a riot to watch + LORD forbid you let the Mamba get a step on you in the open field! Defensive Coordinators are buying stock in Pepto trust me....
I do, too, fwiw. I think that the team is poised to be deeper and more experienced across the board, and I anticipate a big step up in terms of explosiveness at the WR position, in particular. Ed O.
One specific thing I enjoyed watching (in particular) during the Rose Bowl was Thomas throwing into coverage and giving his WR's a chance to make a play. I'd like to think it's a sign of things to come -- for a huge SR yr from Thomas.
He really showed a lot in that game. Tons of poise. I only really saw a couple of bad passes, but his pick was not his fault imo. I have never thought that a QB should get credited with an INT when the ball skips off the hands of the receiver. Like Jerry Rice said, if the ball touches your fingers you should be able to catch it.
Most people have been targeting the 2012 season for a while now and for good reason. QB- Best Depth we've ever had Thomas, Bennett, and Mariota (who insiders think will jump BB) and add in Jeff Lockie who absolutely tore it up his senior year along with Jake Rodriques RB - With Williams, Seastrunk, and James gone, probably our weakest position in terms of depth. No chance Byron Marshall redshirts next year. WR's - As good as they were in the RB, they were sporadic at best during the season and flat out awful on more than one occasion. Add Blackmon, Kelly, and Sumler, along with a more experienced Vaughn and Huff and you all of sudden have a pretty damn good WR with a lot of speed, something we really lacked this year. TE - Colt Lyerla has shown great hands and that athleticism that made him one of the top Athletes in the country. If Curtis White can stay healthy (big if) we would probably have some serious talent along with French O-line will be better with additional experience and added depth from last year's class along with Grasu, Jake Fisher, and Clanton all getting significant playing time. DL- Basically return all everybody except turner which provides us some ridiculous depth LB- Lose Stucky and Kaddu But add in a locked in Alonso and Clay, BoLo, Hardick, Wallace, Garrick DB - Lose absolutely nothing which bodes well for our next match up with USC. S - Pleasant will be tough to replace but Brian Jackson is no slouch and one of the hardest hitters on the team Oregon's gotten to point where we can reload rather than rebuild which crazy to think about. Bottom like Oregon will likely be a top 4 team next year and one of the favorites to make the NC game due to an insanely weak schedule.
