Educk is the Scout.com duck service right? Well I think Justin said when he first started he came from Scout.com while Matt Prehm came from Rivals.com. Hopkins always talk that he has sources within the coaching staff and such and that's where he gets his information. While Matt is the Basketball insider.

BOliver is probably why I think they're doing so well. He is constantly going to camps and doing workouts with the kids personally that he has connections all over California. He was the first person anywhere to break news that DAT was visiting. He has a lot of inside information straight from recruits mouth that I just don't see anywhere.

As for specific stories that break before anyone, I know the DAT was out on 247 before Scout or Rivals, as I was checking furiously everywhere on any new information when I heard. Recently, I saw that Damariay Drew's name was being thrown around before the other sites as well. I think that all the sites get stories out before others, but it seems to me 247 gets them out more consistently sooner.

Also I do respect those guys and I don't share every new article that comes out there, just the ones that are public knowledge. If you've been an Educk subscriber for years then I don't see any reason why you need to switch. Just personal preference really. When I give out information to people on here, I look at it is if we are all standing in a room as friends, and I'm just telling you what I heard.

Thanks, man. I can't say for sure, but I think I do recall Hopkins writing a few articles here and there for Educk - maybe a few years back.

You misinterpreted my questions. I'm not looking to leave Educk. Probably never will. It's a quality group over there and many of the posters date back to the 50's! Can you imagine? One poster has only missed 9 home games since 1952 (*hat off). You wanna talk about insight into the program? HA! I was seeking advice into if other sites are worth the shillings and if they really are full of breaking news.

Ed O., ever the objectivite! :)

I'm sure a lot of people already know about Harper getting offered, but apparently he is extremely excited and I would expect him to commit after his visit.

Just so we are clear..... Cal who barely made a bowl and gave up in it, hasn't beaten USC or Oregon in how many years just landed the 3 top 5* defensive recruits in the country?!? This with USC and Oregon both preseason next year ranked in the top 5?

No way!!! My opinion, These kids got paid big!!!! Non of these three kids will see a victory against either us or USC or major bowl game in their years at Cal. All three of them will be in the pros by their junior year. Bank on it!

It's one thing to get a 5* recruit when your winning like the Ducks did with the Mamba and Colt after going undefeated in route to the national championship game. It's quite another to grab basically the foundation to a complete defense core with comparisons to that of the Miami Hurricanes of the early 90's with Arik on one side, Ellis on another, and Shaq roaming in the backfield to a program that is middle if that of the Pac at best!! BS!! Something stinks here! They didn't just pluck these guys away from Oregon they got two of them that were verbal comitts to USC not to mention every #10 school in the entire nation was after these 3.

So if we are talking weather and city life as been suggested by some? USC is far better weather and bigger city than Cal, if we talking winning, both our programs are better not to mention the rest of the top 10 schools in the nation. How about coaching? Please! Chip,Les Miles, Saban, Bob Stoops, Urban Myer vs Tedford... not even close.... Further the facilities that everyone is talking about in Cal wont even be complete for another year, if that.

Remember the movie Blue Chips? Tedford is Nolte now! They are begging the NCAA to look into them!

This is wayyyyyyyy to much talent to go to one program that really is quite average!! Tedford can't win the big games so they went out and "recruited the best defensive trio in the last 10 years!" Yea right! I was expecting McCarthy and Arik at USC and Shaq at Cal but all three at Cal? WOW!!

I'm blown away that the national media hasn't picked up on this story yet! Ellis, Shaq and Arik have been in the top 10 on rivals for that last year now. This is shocking to say the least!!

Cal is a great academic school. It's a stunningly beautiful campus. It's in the state of California. While their program isn't great, they still send guys to the pros. No reason a kid from California wouldn't want to go to Cal

Make no mistake about this..... those three weren't brought into Cal to go to class and enjoy the campus!!!! They're there to keep Tedford's job! No other reason! As good as those three are and they are GOOOOOOOOD, they wont beat USC or Oregon for the next two years I think we all know it. So why would 3 of top 10 players in the country go to Cal? The pro scouts have already said all three of these guys will be playing on Sunday in three years, so why wouldn't they want a national championship ring with USC or Oregon or Bama for that reason? Why Cal? I'm not the only one asking this question right now I can guarantee you that!

It just seems very odd to me is all!

Ghost - think this through, man. 2011 Cal brought in a good class with the #2 DT in the nation. 2010 the #1 safety. Going back, I remember how crappy it felt that they outrecruited us and the rest of the Pac and landed Desmond Bishop, Jahvid Best, DeSean Jackson - and many other top quality guys. It's a pattern.

It's a great school, highly rated academically. They have amazing facilities - when their new digs are complete they will rival anyones in the nation. There may be a stigma with Kiffin and USC now - causing kids who want to stay in CA to lean more towards Cal and Stanford -- instead of USC (which traditionally, going back the ten years I've been following recruiting, is an absolute powerhouse). Sometimes our classes are so far outranked by USC it isn't even funny - yet, we're competitive. hhmmmm...

IMHO, it's one thing to say a school is unethical, but it's another to say an entire group of student/athletes is - without good reason.

I'm not saying they should have come to Oregon, I'm just saying with Cal being the third? best school in Cali it seems very odd to me that 3 of the top 10 players in the country went to them especially with USC and Oregon primed for another 1,2 punch in Pac-12. I don't think that's a stretch. Further I don't think it's the kids at all. I think it's the boosters of cal.... I played football and the money is there and everyone knows it!!!

Who is the second best school in Cali? Stanford is gonna blow when Luck leaves, and their admissions are even tougher than Cal's

USC is on probation and already at their limit for signed players and UCLA sucks. McCarthy verbally committed to Cal after saying Duck coaches had cooled on him.

being roughly the same distance as Eugene is from Portland, Cal is the closest D1 school to Arik & Shaq. Shaq's older brother starred at Cal & he grew up a Cal fan. Further the talk on rivals is that post Rose Bowl and Buckner's verbal, Kelly stopped by the Sacramento area and visited Jake Rodrigues & Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick. He didn't visit Arik. Maybe AA had already let the Ducks know he was going to UCBerkeley, or just maybe Chip was satisfied with his 6 DLine studs?

just so we are clear... get a grip

Cal uses the same admissions standards for their scholarship athletes as Oregon and all the Pac 12 schools use save UCLA & Stanford... the absolute bare minimum. Stanford's are pretty high, but they were significantly lowered when Harbaugh started coaching there which is largely why they've been landing much better athletes since. Rivals just did a preseason projection for preseason team rankings in 2012 and have the Tree as the 3rd best team in the Pac 12 at #20.

of Cal's verbals, rivals only ranks Shaq in the top 10. Scout has Arik as #1 but thats as an OT and he'll be a DE in college... rivals has him as a *4 and #29 overall

Cal's message boards are full of conspiracy posters who adamantly claim that everyone knows that Phil Knight is paying players to come to Oregon. Husky and Beaver boards are packed with posters saying the same thing. I find all the rival fan's predictable paranoia and jealousy funny

A little tidbit everyone should know about Bryan Harper. He was super excited to get an offer from Oregon and wanted to have our visit as his last so he can keep us fresh in his memory. But it's interesting to note that Arizona is recruiting him as a Quarterback and not a defensive back like UCLA and we are.

It might be too much to turn down. He visits Arizona on the 20th and us on the 27th.

When Oregon snagged the Mamba everyone said what the hell? How did the Ducks get this kid! USC was pissed and many other schools raised and eyebrow, true? That was after my ducks had an undefeated season in the Pac-12 and a national championship game against Auburn.

Cal just grabbed three Mamba's on a team that honestly gave up in a bowl game! Sorry if I raised an eyebrow. In a year Cal's defensive line will average 6'5 325 with a secondary core that will be epic.

BTW- If Phil was paying for players we'd have what Cal will be rolling out on the field in a year. Wouldn't ya say?

I'll try and get a grip now!

AA, Ellis and they just recruited another kid who's 6'7 all over 6'5, all over 300, so where's the fantasy? I don't mind you're a smart ass but the key word there is 'SMART" k? Further you're saying Shaq isn't a lock down secondary player? Maybe you should do some homework on these guys. Kinda why I'm making a big deal about it!

    Arik Armstead 6-7 300 fresh
    Ellis McCarthy 6-5 311 fresh
    Deandre Coleman 6-5 311 soph
that's not counting the kid that just verballed that is 6'7 330 fresh

Oh and Cal says this is their best recruiting class in 30 years..... just saying....
