Interesting read. For the record, I think he's worthy, but there's some interesting analysis in this article and the comments.

McMillan makes his players play defense consistently throughout the game. That gives Aldridge some respect to make up for his anemic rebounding. A second reason is that Aldridge maintains a stoic look worthy of Abraham Lincoln and plays with his mouth closed, gaining him respect from all who peruse pictures of players taking shots.

I'd be interested (but not enough to actually do some digging) to know how WP48 is calculated, as that seems to be about the only stat that matters in that list. As has been pointed out, what separates Aldridge from other players is his versatility.

Also: what the stats do NOT show, is whether or not a player commands a double-team. That is SO important to an offense, because it increases the % of everybody else (provided that player can pass, and Aldridge can). Ibaka? Don't be ridiculous. Millsap? I honestly don't know, but I'd bet that it's Al Jefferson if anyone in the Jazz frontcourt who is being double-teamed. And I'd like to see Millsap try to guard a guard on a switch.

In fact, the more I think about it, the more the writer appears to be an ignorant moron. Ah: he writes for an OKC blog called "Shut Up and Jam".

Blake has no post game and still gets killed on defense. Love has never been nor is he even an average defender. Aldridge is the focal point of our offense and gets doubled and tripeled teamed while still putting up numbers and is an above average defender.
If you would trade aldridge for love or blake then we would not get any better we would be a worse team.

I really hope he doesn't get in. I think it will put a fire under him and he will have a much better second half of the season.

LA has all the tools but NOOOOOOOO Killer Instinct! You can't teach being a bad ass! He'll never have it, and that's why he doesn't deserve to be an allstar! The rest DO!

    Love-Yup
    Griffin-Yup
    Garnett-mhmmm
    Amare- Yep
    Boozer- Sure
    Bosh- Yep
Randolph- Oh this guy beats up his own teamates!

I'd say LA if very much like Gasol.... Gasol is an allstar because Kobe has enough killer instinct for both of them!

That is what is known as a reductio ad absurdum of "DRtg".

Are you disagreeing with a stat that is commonly used to judge a players defense because you don't agree with it?

Great rebounders always have high DRtg just like great scorers always have high PER. He is a bad help and one on one defender, great box out guy and rebounder while being possibly the best passing big in the NBA.

debatable, and irrelevant since all 3 will make it this year.

DRtg has never been a good statistic to use to judge a player's defense

Love has a career DRTG of 108.

12 game samples are fun, though.

Let's check back after 40 games before we all start slobbering over Love's defense.

Well in the end if Aldridge gets in it will be because the coaches voted him in. So no matter what the stats say (and for the record I love stats) thats a good enough endorsement for me. Just like getting invited to try out for the Olympic squad says a lot. I understand its a different beast all together but the point is if coaches who are the most critical people out there feel he is good enough then that says to me he is one of the best at his position in the west and deserving of an all-star appearance.

He has a PER of 22.5 and plays defense. That's 12th in the NBA for guys playing starter minutes (30+).

I guess Russell Westbrook and his 21.5 PER is a lesser player than LMA. I wonder if this OKC clod thinks Westbrook should be an All-Star.

Blake Griffin is 0.5 ahead of LMA in PER. Is he just barely above average?

    Silly article.
