    Papa G writes:
O-Live reported: Not likely that USC would approve of his brother to transfer to Oregon so he couldn't go to Oregon if they go together. More likely to Auburn or Notre Dame where they've visited as well.

NCAA Regs: NCAA regulations generally require a student-athlete who transfers from another institution, either four-year or two-year, to complete one full year in residence at the certifying institution before becoming eligible to compete. There are, however, several potential categories for waivers and/or exceptions to this one-year residence requirement. Many waiver or exception categories are sport specific. In order for a transfer student-athlete to qualify for an exception or waiver of the residency requirement, the student-athlete must meet and follow certain conditions as specified in the NCAA Bylaws. The Compliance Coordinator will determine if the individual student-athlete qualifies for any waivers and whenever a waiver must be requested from the NCAA, the Director of Athletics must review and agree to approve the request.

**Since USC and Oregon are members of the NCAA and Pac12, they are required to adhere to the Bylaws, rules and regulations of both governing bodies - as stated in this letter by Mullins. http://www.goducks.com/fls/500/pages/general/NCAA-Rules_Regulations.pdf

On DT, the staff is predicting that Oregon will end up with Julian Brooks, Thomas Johnson, Jeremiah Poutasi, Corey Whitaker, Arik Armstead, Bryan Harper, and Shaq Thompson. With the smallest bet being on Shaq.

13 days to go till signing day.

I was under the impression that Armstead's brother had graduated from USC, but had a year of eligibility left? Can't he do the same sort of graduate transfer that Russell Wilson did this year, and Jeremiah Masoli did last year?

So, back to the original question. Thanks for the refresher on basic transfer rules, Targus, but they don't apply with Armond Armstead's situation. Do Pac-12 transfer rules apply to a student-athlete who earned their undergraduate degree, yet has eligibility left?

Now castro tweeted wtd oregongang etc and that he owes a visit to ucla for his mother. More interesting though was a tweet to casey mathews telling him that he is about to play his position. anyone else hear anything about Castro playing MLB?

Interesting. He has the size to play the position. Does he have the speed?

the only position that I've heard him projected at is the drop DE which Jordan played this past year. That spot is often called on to fall back into coverage and cover TEs and RBs leaking out. To answer Da O's question about his speed, I think that both MLB and the drop DE require an athlete who can cover ground and close to the same size of athletes... from his tape and listed size I could see him as a MLB

It is my understanding that the Pac-12 rules apply and supersede the NCAA ones, although I don't have a link for that.

Thanks Ed. Seems right, at least based on what we've been seeing/hearing about Arik's recruitment.

Bryan Harper did not visit UCLA this weekend, so it seems it's down to 'Zona and us for him.

Thomas Johnson visited A&M this weekend, and I've heard it went really well.

The answer to your question is found in the following document and there is also a transfer handbook at ncaa.org. My guess, would be neither regulation/law "trumps" the other and the more strict rule applies - as you don't want to be found in violations of any rule -as Mullin's letter states the U must be in compliance with both NCAA and Pac rules. Maybe the age old question of, do I follow local, State or Federal law debate applies...where you follow all three.

Go to the section on post-grad athletics. Another recommendation is for Papa G to take a guess, then post your claim here and there is a 91.3% probability, based on your Duck post history, that the opposite is true. :devilwink: :

As a senior who has already graduated, Armstead, who started every game in 2010, could return to the Trojans, transfer to another school or make himself available for the NFL draft. The family is displeased with how the Trojans have handled the situation, so a return appears highly unlikely at this point in time.

As if to put an exclamation point on that unhappiness, Arik Armstead, Armond’s brother and a highly-rated recruit, decommitted from the Trojans in October.

No decision has been made by the older Armstead sibling, although it appears a transfer is the most likely option for 2012. Armstead mentioned Notre Dame, Arkansas and Auburn as transfer possibilities, and could be visiting those institutions at some point in the future.

“Nothing’s set in stone, but I’m going to start taking visits and checking some other schools out,” Armstead told the paper.

The situation Armstead finds himself in is somewhat similar to the one Jarvis Jones went through a couple of years ago. A neck injury suffered by Jones during the 2009 season was labeled at one point as career-threatening by Lane Kiffin, and he was not cleared by the USC medical staff.

Jones decided in June the following year to transfer from USC to Georgia and, after sitting out the 2010 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules and being medically cleared by UGA, the linebacker was a consensus All-American for the Bulldogs.

**due to Pac rules, he has to sit out a year if transferring in conference, grad or not, is my understanding**

Yeah, I already posted that in response to Ed's much more concise, and much more relevant, answer to my question. I already mentioned Russell Wilson and Jeremiah Masoli as being in a similar situation as Armstead.

I'm sorry I just skipped to the end or your post, but based on your previous post that had literally nothing to do with a graduating senior, it seemed you'd likely be wrong again. You also may want to attempt to read other people's posts, because we're passed the transfer thing. :)

Ok. Glad it's resolved. You seemed a bit unsure, as usual, similar to your claim regarding our chances with Armstead, Shaq or McCarthy, and similar to your false claim regarding FS/SS drafted.

Just trying to help! :pimp: It's important to help those in need.
