I know the possibility of Nash was posted before; but I wanted to post this trade idea again. The reason is I believe Phoenix would love to get "Childress's contract" off the books. This deal will almost guarantee we will have 0 cap room to get a marquee free agent; but being honest; will we even have a shot at one? Here is the deal: Nash and Childress for Felton, Matthews and Babbit I think Nash will stay in Portland and can give us 3 very solid years. Look at what Kidd has done in Dallas. When you have great B-Ball IQ; you can stay in the league for a long time. Nash would punish teams for daring our guards to shoot; while they bunker down on Aldridge. Also, can you imagine the amount of lobs Aldridge will get with Nash in the game? And talk about our fast break baskets too. Childress is guaranteed for 3 more years. If Wallace does leave town, we have either a starter at SF (Childress) or move Batum to starting 3; while having Childress be the back up 3. So if this deal is made; this is what I expect the line-up to look like. PG: Nash, SG: Batum, SF: Wallace, PF: Aldridge, Center: Camby Reserves: PG: Nolan Smith / Crawford, SG: Crawford / E. Will, SF: Childress / Batum, PF: Craig Smith / Thomas, Center: Thomas / Aldridge The more I think about this deal; the more I like it.
I'm sure Phoenix would like to get rid of Childress' deal, but what exactly are they getting in return? Babbitt? Puh-lease!! Matthews can play a little bit, but he's really just "a guy" and Felton expiring is either a good thing or a bad thing. I can't believe that is the best offer out there for Nash.
Well it's a bad situation for Phoenix. The teams that would need Nash couldn't part with the pieces that could take them to the next level. The only other team I see that could give decent pieces is Orlando. They have some nice shooters; that always seem to entice Phoenix. And Nash, Turk with Howard could be a deadly trio in the East.
I think if you're counting on Wallace leaving as a FA it makes more sense to simply include him in the deal
Ideally Phoenix is going to want liquid assets like multiple picks ... they may not get them, but if it's time to rebuild an offer of Luke Babbitt, Wesley Matthews and Raymond Felton wouldn't exactly light a fire under my ass to make a deal.
Nash isnt' going to garner any real good offers. He is old and not a building block for the future and almost all the contender teams that would want him already have a PG. Lakers/Magic/Blazers are the only real teams that would want his services and the Lakers have nothing of value while the magic have shooters but not really any good young talent and what we have is the ability to take on salary from them which might be the best solution if Nash demands a trade.
Yeah Magic doesn't have expiring contracts to make it work. Although the Lakers do have some options; just not quality. They could use their TE for Childress; then do Meta World Peace and Blake for Nash. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=85vclvx
The suns take on big Cash for useless players. I doubt the suns want to pay the 11M combine for the next 2 years on both those players.
OMG, I just looked at the draft and noticed MWP and Blake's (PER). M. World Peace is 6.7?!?!?! and Blake is 10.4? Wow they suck big time!
Peace must be on a psychiatric drug that has taken away his once-feared ferocity. I conjecture that, but he says his psychiatrist is the most meaningful person in his life, the reason he goesto one is his ferocity, and psychiatrists prescribe mood-altering drugs. So it's obvious why he now sucks.
FYI I know a lot of people worry about Nash's age but here is an interesting comparison. Here is Nash and Stockton at 37 years old in their 16th season (which is the current season for Nash): http://bkref.com/tiny/p6nUN Here is Stockton's stats and you can his last three years: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/stockjo01.html#per_game::none I guess the question is, would you have taken Stockton in his last 3 years?
I hate Stockton; but would have loved him in Portland. So yeah I would have taken Stockton his last 3 years.
Yeah, I hated him too but there is no denying how good he was. He was still pretty damned productive his last three years in the league and I think its a pretty good comparison with Nash.
I think Nash could be a better scorer than Stockton though. Stockton wasn't really too big of an offensive scorer like Nash. And what Nash brings would be a Godsend to Aldridge. We could very well see a 25/9 Aldridge easily. Maybe even higher numbers!
It's practically palpable through the computer screen, you working yourself into a tizzy over Steve Nash.
